Virus free RAM

Recommended Posts

This is a quote from an Internet site that specialises in "virus free RAM"

I have not heard of this before, is it really relevant or just a marketing ploy?

*****************************************************************

Just about all RAM Modules have a Serial Presence Detect or SPD chip so that the computer can know how much and what type of RAM is on the RAM Module. A computer virus can make a computer unusable by over-writing the information contained in the SPD chip. Until the RAM Modules are replaced, the computer will be unusable.

In 1998, A company Patented the Process to Write-Protect this SPD chip, and many RAM Module manufacturers did not want to pay the license fee to this company who owned the Patent. So, they decided to just sell memory modules that were not Write-Protected. GOLDENRAM was one of only a few companies that paid this license fee and offers consumers the choice of purchasing Write-Protected modules.

that is nearly the most absurb thing ever. You need a special programming rig just to write to the spd chip on the ram. To even think or say that some virus is going to write to it from your computer borders on the insane.
