what picks you up? a quote or a saying or a song maybe? a story?

i mean something that when you see it, hear it, read it makes you smile, gives you perspective, motivates you, sums up your sorta personal mission statement?

something that defines your views about life, or whatever.

I like the this part of the song "Do You Realize??"

Do you realize that everyone, you know, someday, will die?

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes..

Let them know you realize that life goes fast

It's hard to make the good things last

You realize the sun doesn't go down

It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning 'round

Do you realize??

Also Oscar Wilde's sayings mean alot to me.

"Don't quote me on that." - Oscar Wilde

"PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!11" ~ Oscar "Hax0rz" Wilde

"Bill Gates owns 43% of the internet, that guy on Doctor Who owns 51%, 6% is owned by private business, and 10% in owned by the public"

“But that’s 110%”

“Yes well the internet is quite large” - Oscar Wilde to Jesus

"I have nothing to declare except war on Austria." ~ Oscar Wilde, 1936

"You either kill that robot or I devour this baby! You can't have both!" ~ Oscar Wilde

A Glass that holds 20 ounces with 10 ounces in it means different things to different people!

1. It is half empty. (Pessimist!)

2. It is half Full. (Optimist!)

3. Your Shout! (Aussie!)

My children's laughter. Sitting outside their rooms and listening to them giggle with each other. Knowing they have a happy spirit. :wub:

Yeah, but what if you get thirsty after drinking everything in the glass, ask the waiter for a refill, and you get twice as much as you need neo???

I'd be pretty mad then.

i probably have a couple.... i think one of the best things I have ever heard is Al Pacino's "Peace with Inches" speech in Any Given Sunday.

Peace with Inches

I don’t know what to say really, three minutes to the biggest battle of our lives, all comes down to today, and either we heal as a team or were gonna crumble.  Inch by inch, play by play until were finished.  We’re in hell right now gentlemen, believe me.  And we can stay here and get the *hit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light, we can climb our way outta hell.  One inch at a time.

Now I cant do it for ya, Im too old.  I look around and I see these young faces and I think….  I mean, Ive made every wrong choice a middle aged man can make.  I uh, Ive :filtered: away all my money, I chased off anyone who has ever loved me, and lately I cant even stand the face I see in the mirror.  You know when you get old in life things get taken from you, that’s part of life.  BUT you only learn that when you start losing stuff, you find out lifes this game of inches so is football.  Because in either game, life or football, the margin for error is so small, I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don’t make it, one half second too slow too fast and you don’t quite catch it.

The inches we need are everywhere around us.  They’re in every break of the game, every minute, every second.  On this team we fight for that inch.  On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch.  We claw with our fingernails for that inch.  Because we know when we add up all those inches, that’s gonna make the ****in difference between winning and losing, between living and dying.

Ill tell you this, in any fight, it’s the guy that’s willing to die whos gonna win that inch.

I know if Im gonna have any life anymore, its because im still willing to fight and die for that inch.

Because that’s what living is, the six inches in front of your face.

Now I cant make you do it.  You got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes, now I think that your gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you.  Your gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team cause he knows when it comes down to it your gonna do the same for him.  That’s a team gentlemen.  And either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals. That’s football guys.  That’s all it is.  Now, what are you gonna do?

and as far as quotes go.

from a Chorus Line "All I ever needed was music and the mirror" (my daughters favorite)

It depends on where you live I suppose:

re-hab is for people who quit

re-hab is for weak people who can't hack it etc. etc.

you can make as many as you want, I know I am probably not expressing myself very well( must be an Irish thing) and I am sorry if I have offended anyone who is after going through the ordeal, or knows somone who has!

Actually, posted this in the wrong topic, sorry!

......clearly it's the wrong size glass.... ;)

There are many quotes and sayings I enjoy, here is one:

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

"Maxims for Revolutionists: Reason", Man and Superman. 1903

Known this since I was pretty young and it has always given me hope and a smile :)

'if' by rudyard kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,

If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
