Hey I'm in the process of getting all the parts together for my first build, but I really don't know anything about raid, I want a raptor but this hard drive will have to do for a while, can I set it up in raid 0, I know there is ata, sata, Ide, which ones can go raid?

In order to set up raid 0 all you need are two or more identical hard drives and either a raid card or a motherboard with raid on board. The type of raid card or raid on your motherboard will determine whether you need SATA drives or PATA drives.

i thought you where going with the ic7-g max2

i like mine .. bt it has Silig raid controller ... the P4C800 E has a promise raid controller ... if it is an ATA or IDE ( same thing ) HD i believe that board has 2 SATA ports and one IDE raid port off the promise raid controller meaning that you could still utilise the IDE raid but they would share the same IDE cable Master & slave and that will seriously drop the raid performance .......... it also has 2 SATA ports off the SB

the Max 2 has only 4 SATA ports for raid support ... no ide raid :mrsgreen:

EDIT : never mind i see thats a 400gb Hitachi drive so ide not an issue .. but a 2nd identical drive for raid 0 would be ideal

the p4c800e-d has the promise sata/ide raid for 0,1,0+1

up to 6 drives i believe 2 sata/4 x ide

and also has the fast intel 2 port sata controller 0/1

2 SATA off the S/B ( intel )

2 SATA off the Promise raid

1 IDE Raid off the promise but supports 2 IDE in raid Master / slave

plus the standard IDE non raid ports ( intel )

Storage South Bridge:

-2 x UltraDMA 100

-2 x Serial ATA with RAID 0, 1

Promise 20378 RAID controller:

-1 x UltraDMA 133 support two hard drives

-2 x Serial ATA -RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, Multiple RAID

i think youre thinking off the P4 P 800 dlx ( non E ) it has

2 SATA ( intel )

2 SATA ( VIA raid )

2 IDE raid ( VIA )
