AdamMAXIS
My 450 Watt Antec powers my system fine. Your power supply should handle the load fine too.
JackeL
I say keep it too Once you get it built you can check the rails..and go from there looking at the rails.... i would not expect too much out of it: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...39&Sku=D15-1001 that is a pretty powerful system you are putting together there.....the new setup could make quick work of that psu! saw this posted a couple of times recently: ....thats a lot of load on the +12v rail! SIK_L_CELL
OCZ 520 is probably the best psu I could recommend for the money.
JackeL
It would be a little less wattage if you didn't have the Geforce 6800 GT listed twice ....yeah, a little! maybe that example was for a SLI setup? anyways, it could still be a heavy +12v load for that psu.....i'm not saying it won't work with it, but i'd look into a better one if it were my system. OneCool
OCZ 520 is probably the best psu I could recommend for the money. I have the same but does she need it?I think that matters most
SIK_L_CELL
I have the same but does she need it?I think that matters most Well the OCZ has very healthy 12v and 5v rails. AMD 64's tend to get "funny" if the PSU isnt pumping enough amps. A good PSU is often the overlooked piece in a system. The 470 will do fine too. Watts isnt as important as amps and stability in the 64"s. Edited November 29, 2004 by SIK_L_CELL
ronniecoleman
A quality 350w and up will do without any overclocking. I'm running this on my other athlon64 without any problems and have used the 6800gt with the setup. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-455&depa=

Plus knowing that it isnt my PSU giving me problems is priceless.
OneCool
How can "you" tell when it's the power supply?
ronniecoleman
I agree. My 520w powerstream is the best power supply I have used and in the future plan to use other ocz power supplies. They also come with a 5 year warranty.

SIK_L_CELL
How can "you" tell when it's the power supply? Do you really need me to answer that? Or were you messing with me?
OneCool
NOPE...I want you to explain to DL that she needs a $140 power supply...why would she need it and what would it do for her and why???

Sure, first of all you dont "need" a $149 PSU. I bet that 350watt Enermax will be just fine, but I would look at the OCZ 470. The psu is the powerplant of your system. all electronics and AMD64's especially for that matter run better and safer on CLEAN, STEADY power. OCZ is by far the best performance for the money I have found. And your system will be upgradable on a quality PSU. So if you use all quality components you can rest assured that you will spend more time enjoying your new rig than troubleshooting. Didnt mean to step on anyones toes, Just my 2 cents. crossfire
i use this power supply in my A64 rig.. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-924&depa=0 never had a minutes trouble out of it
JackeL
You can do better than that JackeL just borrowed the picture is all! onecool, i'm not suggesting she buy a $140 psu (although that would not be a bad thing).....there are plenty in the $70 to $100 range that will do a lot better than the one she has. hell, i'm not suggesting she buy a new one at all......but if it were mine
betterdan
I've got this 470W power supply http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-446&depa=0 the fools just forgot to list the other 12v rail. One rail is 16A and the other is 15A Here is a power supply calculator to determine what you need. http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ It reccomends a 362W power supply for my AMD system.
