mmanya
A little follow-up : http://www.pandia.com/sw-2003/12-scumware.html excerpt - "Gator's SearchScout program will deliver eight to ten Overture pay-per-click text ads in a pop-under window when a Gator user does a search on a selected keyword or phrase associated with those listings. Yes, the new windows will pop up even if you do a search at Google." 8 to 10 ??? And that is per look-up ?!? This is TOTALLY out of control ...
Jander
This has got to be stopped! I think it's a good idea to see what companies are being harmed by Gator, because if we tell them, they can actually get lawyers and pay people to think this through. Aside from that, every legistlator has an e-mail address. His secretaries check it for him, but at least it's checked. Find those addys and we can pound everyone with e-mail. I know how they work, so if they keep seeing the same thing over and over, they will look at it and make sure that the legislator looks at it. Keep in mind: Do not be abusive in any way. Be polite, yet firm. Saying bad things and basically looking ignorant is no way to get things done. I'll be getting a few things ready for my rep (I know him personally) so I can let him know my stance. I'm still in the thinking that we need a website or even a single page that can give all the information needed on spyware. People would rather goto a subdomain than type in the url for a thread. I'll draft a letter and post it here to get some feedback. Another killer idea is to go to your local news papers (the more local the better).
Jander
Also, another reason for a page dedicated to the ASB is it gives us a more unified front. Just sending someone to a thread makes it look like a group of scattered people. Unified front=professional looking=you get taken seriously.

"Keywood" I reckon,,with some keywords ya just get the "scouts page" and with others ya get the scout,,a popup and a small "gator info" box inb the lower right hand side of the browser screen that is attached to the gator icons head. it will just go away if ya ignore it for about 10 seconds. This is a very strange specimen as far as software goes,,some of the pages are very specific and others just come in out of the blue?? and I can see how it would effect performance {bang!! just got hit with that P word} of a 98/ME machine really bad,,and it has to be bandwidth intensive as hell!! Jander
*shakes head* Gator has got to be stopped. I don't even have it, but what you describe Volt makes me sick anyway. Talk about a tropper. You deserve an award or something.

chengrob
Hey Volt, I am breathing some life back into this sucker. We have a rather complete boycott list of everything you have posted so far. By the end of this week, I'll have a complete web page for the boycott list. And next week the PR activities start. Once I get it up on the web, just let me know if we want to keep on adding more companies to the list. I am crossing my fingers that this could turn out to be BIG on fighting the GATOR. lucubration
Crapolasaurus!!!! Why not just promote Spyware Blaster, SpyBot and Ad Aware, all of which help fight and kill Gator for FREE? Gator doesn't bother me because I don't join in...simple as that. Spread the word about these three programs and the problem is made null...

Gator doesn't bother me because I don't join in...simple as that. Spread the word about these three programs and the problem is made null... The idea is to get the folks who use gator,,{and there are lots of big names who do} to quit using that means of advertising. is that hard to understand??
lucubration
I prefer Gator nullification. The companies go where they can get an audience. Money talks, not letters. Remove the audience and the Gator dries out in the swamp.
