The Frequent Disconnecting Of 56k

Dialup ISP's have a nasty habit of disconnecting you if you're not active. They detect your inactivity and decide the bandwidth could be better used elsewhere. There are various 'stay alive' programs available on the internet that will simulate activity by refreshing an IE page periodically. Might want to look into something like that. -kd5-

Check your settings for your connection. My defaults were to cut me off after 2 minutes. I managed to bump that up to 10 minutes. I run Linux so I can't really help with Windows, but there should be settings you can tweak in Control Panel>Dial Up Networking.

You might also check with your ISP's support/help site. this is a very common occurance with 56k's (like mine!), and their FAQ's might well have a number of possible fixes and settings (up to and including disabling your V90--which increases your stability o.k., but you lose speed bigtime).
