Installing fah on opensuse 13.2 kde

Recommended Posts

It's a bit of a pain but this worked for me:

Create a folder for folding: home/Your_name/ (So mines home/ nigsy/ FAH)

Copy the 2 rpms to that folder.

Run these commands one at a time (I did them as root)

 rpm -i --nodeps fahcontrol-7.2.9-1.noarch.rpm

 rpm -i --nodeps fahviewer-7.2.9-1.x86_64.rpm

**Remember to replace -7.2..9 with your version eg: fahcontrol-7.4.4......

This should create the install

To run. Open or cd into your folding folder > open terminal > Run

sudo FAHControl

It should now run.

OK, looks like something didn't go right. Ran the two rpms and in the FAH folder I see just the two rpm files for client and control. Running that last command gives an error.

The files I have are fahclient-7.4.4-1.x86_64.rpm and fahcontrol-7.4.4-1.noarch.rpm

justin@linux:~/FAH> sudo FAHControl
root's password:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/FAHControl", line 25, in <module>
    from fah import FAHControl, load_fahcontrol_db
ImportError: No module named fah

Something must not be right, just tried again and this is the output I see

linux:/home/justin/FAH # rpm -i --nodeps fahclient-7.4.4-1.x86_64.rpm
        package fahclient-7.4.4-1.x86_64 is already installed
linux:/home/justin/FAH # rpm -i --nodeps fahcontrol-7.4.4-1.noarch.rpm
        package fahcontrol-7.4.4-1.noarch is already installed
linux:/home/justin/FAH # sudo FAHControl
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/FAHControl", line 25, in <module>
    from fah import FAHControl, load_fahcontrol_db
ImportError: No module named fah
linux:/home/justin/FAH #

Did I do something wrong?

Also, I can't seem to find my original passcode thing from Stanford. Think I may have accidentally deleted the email with it. Some way to get it back?

Ok. So the client & control are installed so the issue could be missing python files.

**Sorry my bad - You need to run**

sudo FAHClient

If it still doesn't work see below:

Open the following folders in 'Super User" mode (Right click on usr folder and select super user) Root/ usr / lib /python 2.6 /site packages /

You should see the following folders:

  • fah
  • FAHControl 7.4.xxxx

Copy these 2 folders and paste them into:

  • python2.7/site packages
  • python3.4/site packages

**If the site package folder isn't in 2.7 or 3.4 just copy it and it's contents from the 2.6 directory.

Exit back to you folding folder and execute the sudo FAHClient command.

You may also need to edit the config file for folding in the FAH folder you created with your user name and passkey info as I'm not sure you can do this from the user interface and get it to stick.

OK looks like that got it running. But I can't get the FAHControl to open so I can put in my username, passkey and team number.

Do I need to have the viewer installed for that?

Viewer is the fancy graphics of the protien being folded. You don't need it.

FAHControl should be found under Application Menu > Education > Science.....do you see it there?
