Edge Browser Reset

Lately there has been an influx of those "Your computer is infected, you must call this number" fake advertisements that hold your browser hostage.

Like the example below:

These are completely fake, but still they run scripts to keep themselves active and lock up your browser.

Flushing and resetting Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome will take care of the pollution, but it's a bit trickier with Windows 10's Edge browser.

Typically, these fake scare ads cover the browser, so that you cannot access the options or settings to reset Edge.

There is a way to do it though without having to uninstall and then reinstall Edge.

If the Edge browser in Windows 10 has been locked up, please do the following:
Right click on the Start button and click on Command Prompt (Admin)
then type or copy/paste the following:
taskkill /im MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe /f
Sometimes with these "rotating" scam pages, it has to be done a couple of times.
Once the browser is freed up, the settings menu will be accessible.
Click on the 3 dots on the upper right of the browser, go to settings, then click "Choose what to clear" under Clear browsing data.
Click the "Clear" button
Close and reopen Edge.
