Okay the x60 laptop with a single ssd

duane@linux-lei1:~> su
Password:
linux-lei1:/home/duane # hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 1758 MB in 2.00 seconds = 879.43 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 392 MB in 3.00 seconds = 130.62 MB/sec
linux-lei1:/home/duane # hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 1774 MB in 2.00 seconds = 886.76 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 392 MB in 3.01 seconds = 130.32 MB/sec
linux-lei1:/home/duane # hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 1700 MB in 2.00 seconds = 850.57 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 394 MB in 3.01 seconds = 130.88 MB/sec
linux-lei1:/home/duane #

I remember these rates using a desktop with twin 10k rpm raptors in raid0.

edit; the laptop is well over 10 Years old :P

to be honest duan, unless i'm missing something then i can't see you getting any better speeds out of it than the 130MBs in your first post, because anything connected to it will be limited by the pcmcia sata connection type, which i'd think is sata 1.

have a similar thing with my pc, ssd drive is capable of 500MB's but on my sata 2 ports most it can achieve is about 275Mbs if memory serves.

if i had a newer pc with sata 3 connections then i'd get it's full 500MBs speeds.
