AverageAnnie
Hi, I opened my laptop this afternoon and I've been getting these "Bad image" errors non-stop since then. I run Windows 7 and the text in the error is the typical:"someprogram.exe - Bad Image ...either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support".Any assistance with this issue would be very, very appreciated! Juliet
See if you can run this tool. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware TO YOUR DESKTOP Windows XP : Double click on the icon to run it. Windows Vista, Windows 7 & 8 : Right click and select "Run as Administrator" On the Dashboard click on Update Now Go to the Setting Tab Under Setting go to Detection and Protection Under PUP and PUM make sure both are set to show Treat Detections as Malware Go to Advanced setting and make sure Automatically Quarantine Detected Items is checked Then on the Dashboard click on Scan Make sure to select THREAT SCAN Then click on Scan After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open MBAM once more. Click on the History tab > Application Logs. Double click on the scan log which shows the Date and time of the scan just performed. Click 'Copy to Clipboard' Paste the contents of the clipboard into your reply

Juliet
Do you still have the 2 antivirus on the computer? HKLM-x32\...\Run: [AvastUI.exe] => C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastUI.exe [7139768 2016-03-10] (AVAST Software) (Sophos Limited) C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\Web Control\swc_service.exe Then you tried to remove Sophos?, there are still many services and related files left behind from an incomplete uninstall. Description: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolume2 We can run the chkdsk utility shortly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please open Notepad *Do Not Use Wordpad!* or use any other text editor than Notepad or the script will fail. (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the quote box below: To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it and select copy. Paste this into the open notepad. save it to the Desktop as fixlist.txt NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST/FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. AverageAnnie
I did try to remove it, I got it from university and it stopped working after awhile and that's when I tried to get rid of through control panel uninstall but it didn't work. I got Avast after this problem started as a recommendation from a friend. Also, since you mentioned Sophos I wanted to get a screenshot of the error message. I thought this was a generic problem but I think I may be wrong:The fixlist was created and FRST64 was run and it gave me the Fixlog here: (computer was also restarted but the errors popped up once the user screen appeared again)Fix result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x64) Version:05-03-2016 01Ran by Annie (2016-03-11 22:26:52) Run:1Running from C:\Users\Annie\DesktopLoaded Profiles: Juliet
The screen shot displays a file needed by Sophos to run correctly but has been partially removed. We can remove the other left over related files to Sophos but, is this something that was required by University? and if the remaining files/folders, services are removed will this cause a problem at the school? You make the decision, I'll list the fix to follow if Sophos can be removed. Please open Notepad *Do Not Use Wordpad!* or use any other text editor than Notepad or the script will fail.
Oh, it was just a program offer from the school for students and it just failed to continue working and would refuse to start up, so no issue there! But I completed the fixlist and it restarted and I've been waiting and browsing and using it normally and so far none of the errors have popped up!Thank you very, very much! I apologize for not just posting the screenshot earlier, I should have provided more information but it's been a bit crazy, thank you again! I genuinely appreciate your patience with my lack of good judgement there. Also, here is the fixlog just in case it would be useful for future reference:Fix result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x64) Version:05-03-2016 01Ran by Annie (2016-03-12 21:58:02) Run:2Running from C:\Users\Annie\DesktopLoaded Profiles: UpdatusUser & Annie (Available Profiles: UpdatusUser & Annie)Boot Mode: Normal==============================================fixlist content:*****************startCreateRestorePoint:CloseProcesses:AppInit_DLLs: ,C:\PROGRA~2\Sophos\SOPHOS~1\SOPHOS~2.DLL => C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\sophos_detoured_x64.dll [217672 2014-09-15] ()AppInit_DLLs-x32: ,C:\PROGRA~2\Sophos\SOPHOS~1\SOPHOS~1.DLL => C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\sophos_detoured.dll [275352 2014-09-15] ()R1 SAVOnAccess; C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\savonaccess.sys [158976 2014-09-16] (Sophos Limited)C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\savonaccess.sysS3 sdcfilter; C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\sdcfilter.sys [38144 2014-09-16] (Sophos Limited)S4 SophosBootDriver; C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\SophosBootDriver.sys [27904 2014-09-16] (Sophos Limited)C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\sdcfilter.sysC:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\SophosBootDriver.sysEmptyTemp:End*****************Restore point was successfully created.Processes closed successfully.",C:\PROGRA~2\Sophos\SOPHOS~1\SOPHOS~2.DLL" => Value data removed successfully.",C:\PROGRA~2\Sophos\SOPHOS~1\SOPHOS~1.DLL" => Value data removed successfully.SAVOnAccess => Service stopped successfully.SAVOnAccess => service removed successfullyC:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\savonaccess.sys => moved successfullysdcfilter => service removed successfullySophosBootDriver => service removed successfullyC:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\sdcfilter.sys => moved successfullyC:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\SophosBootDriver.sys => moved successfullyEmptyTemp: => 275.1 MB temporary data Removed. The system needed a reboot.==== End of Fixlog 21:58:49 ====
Juliet
Glad it's working now and your welcome What we can do now is run an online scan with Eset, for the time being it is our most trusted scanner. Most reliable and thorough. The settings I suggest will show us items located in quarantine folders so don't be alarmed with this, also, in case of a false positive I ask that you not allow it to delete what it does find. This scanner can take quite a bit of time to run, depending of course how full your computer is. Note: This scan may take a long time to complete. Please do not browse the Internet whilst your Anti-Virus is disabled. ESET Online Scan Note: This scan may take a long time to complete.
