Updates will not install

Recommended Posts

My apologies if I am posting in the wrong area.

Please I am after help, not after criticism.

I have just completed a fresh reinstall of Vista 32bit.

Things were going well and then they weren't, all of the updates were coming in installing, then never ending cycle of reboots was happening, then I got some more updates come in, I clicked on install and it just sat there, not downloading.

I have ESET Smart Security, and from past experience I had to disable the firewall, in order for the updates to install, and I have been doing this, right up until now. Where the download just sits on 0%.

I have to date :-

Run MrFixit, it found two update errors wasn't able to fix and told me to restart which I did.

Tried again no joy.

Then I stopped the WUS service

I renamed the SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old

Then regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll

Then net start wuauserv

Then rebooted. Same thing except this time it is not finding the updates.

well done.

sorry nobody was able to offer any suggestions but you seemed to know what you were doing judging by your first post, can you tell us what the problem finally was and the fix for it, who knows it may help someone else in the future.

I don't know what the problem was, or what actually ended up fixing it, I just downloaded all of the smaller kb's updates first, left the bigger ones until last.
