Video card compare help.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, how ya doing? I have a question about which old video card i should use.

here are my current specs.

Core i7 2600

16GB DDR3 1600

256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD

2x 1TB WD Blacks

485W power supply, Orion, i think is the name on it.

XfX Radeon HD 5750 1GB

I was just given an evga GTX 285 1GB card.

is the GTX 285 going to give me much better gaming experience than the 5750?

I know i would need a better power supply for the GTX.

from what I have seen online at different GPU compare sites, they seem to be very close, which seems strange to me.

so I wanted to get your guys opinions, since I trust you all here.

thanks guys!

EDIT: im only gaming at 1680x1050, on an apple cinema display, via DVI

yeah i agree. I did find this link, it a review/benchmark of the 5750 and it goes up against the GTX 285, the GTX seems to kill it in all performance benchmarks.

thats the age old question, which is better? ATI or Nvidia. game wise each would perform differently, how much? who knows. spec wise the 285 offers a tad bit more. http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=616&card2=605or over here http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-5750-vs-GeForce-GTX-285

also depends what your gonna use the card for..id say the gtx 285

the difference in performance is not worth the hassles just stick with the 5750, if you didn't need a new power supply and case then the gtx would have been my first option too but seeing how that's not the situation then i really wouldn't worry about it and stick with the amd/ati card.

thanks guys! its always tough when PC gaming on a budget of about $0, lol got to take what you can get, and am always a couple gens behind. thanks for the advise! Ill stick with my 5750, and either keep the gxt 285 for another build if I ever get a bigger case and power supply, or Ill try and sell it.
