tacticaltal
Yes, I believe we're clear. If I have any trouble, I'll check back. There's a program or two that I want to remove, and I don't seem to be able to find it in the programs removal area. They came up in the logs, and I think one is Windows Defender. I don't think that came with the system, and I'd like to find it and remove it. Thank you guys for all your help.
caintry_boy
Windows Defender is part of Windows operating system. You can't remove it, but you CAN disable it... http://www.sysprobs.com/how-to-remove-windows-defender-on-windows-8-1-windows-

Tomk_
Why would you want to remove/disable Windows Defender? it is currently your anti-virus and your firewall. Please answer this before we do some housekeeping.
tacticaltal
I wasn't aware that it came with the OS, I'm fine with keeping it.
Tomk_
It's OK to choose to use a different Anti-Virus program... but you need to have one. Most replacement programs will disable Defender as part of their installation. Let's do some housekeeping so you can return to your regularly scheduled life. We need to remove the tools we've used during cleaning your machine Download Delfix from here Ensure Remove disinfection tools is tickedAlso tick:Create registry backup Purge system restore Click Run The program will run for a few moments and then notepad will open with a log. I don't need to see it so you don't need to post it.If you have any tools or logs left, just go ahead and delete them. The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing. Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.I would also suggest you read this:So how did I get infected in the first place?by Tony KleinAlso: "How to prevent malware" by miekiemoesPlease respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
