New phone

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, and to say I am still learning would be an understatement. I would appreciate any suggestions on Apps I can download. I would be interested in any app that you find helpful, or just fun to monkey around with. I am on the road about 3 weeks at a time and need something to keep my mind occupied. I have my laptop with me but cant always get it out since I drive a van and space is limited. The Galaxy can also be a "hotspot", and I think that is so cool.

Thanks for any and all suggestions

Go Panthers !!!

I bought the S4 in July - my first smart phone. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to trying out apps so I'll be watching this thread to see the input.

here's a few downloaded that I like

Airdroid - mentioned by both Nigsy and Bruce https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid

Lookout - mentioned by Nigsy (I think - could have been BB) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout

The score (sports) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fivemobile.thescore

Naked Trailers (movie trailers) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reelzchannel.nakedtrailers

Note that there's a separate topic for smartphones - you may get more input if posted there

These are the main ones I use:

  • Lookout security
  • Airdroid (for file transfer)
  • Quickpic (Instead of gallery)
  • Mx Movie Player (Plays every file type; far better than stock video player)
  • Kingsoft Office (Allows MS Office files)
  • Andro Zip file manager
  • Google Chrome (for internet)

It's a great phone. Any issues with it; or you just need some pointers, post back.

The draw back with that program is it can't manage macro based sheets in Excel, at least when I tried it, I needed something to keep the records of the quiz I help run for raising money for the local Hospice.

Should you use Sat Nav, give Waze a try, it takes some getting used to, so use it locally to get used to it, but it gives real time updates, because every user can report issues as they come across them, from traffic jams, road works, or dangers such as a vehicle on the hard should or something, there are other alerts as well, not to mention fuel, you can update garage prices, as can others, and if you search for fuel, you can see what the cheapest or closest is, it takes to long to explain it all, but this give a small taste of what it does.

Thanks, Nigsy AND 8210. I will check out those mentioned and give 'em a try. This is my first smart phone and I a bit leery of doing things on it, but I will get the hang of it soon, I hope.

I did download the AVG app. :geezer: Better safe than sorry.
