No IP connection with modem

My laptop works well with wireless, but I changed from DSL to cable, now I cannot connect to the modem. I have a network magic software that diagnoses and it tell me that there is no connection to the modem. I called the modem co and they said the modem is working. Once in awhile the modem would come on and disconnect for a split second. I know my MAC address are messed up and the NM software is not picking up the correct address. Should I uninstall that software first and go into Windows networking and delete workgroup or VS/versa. If I should have to go into windows networking to delete that workgroup, how is this done?
