Tomk_
That is part of the instructions to add a line for safeboot as we already did and you show in post #43 above. If you were to click on the second to last line... the safeboot box would be available (not greyed out) but you would need to change it back in order to boot into regular mode. leftydrummrr
Should I try it? I'm concerned I wouldn't get back out of safemode. Edited October 9, 2012 by leftydrummrr
Tomk_
Sure. Give it a try. In order to get back to normal mode... you will have to go back in to MSCONFIG and uncheck safeboot. You will also need to make sure normal startup is checked on the general tab.
leftydrummrr
No luck. I clicked the second to last line, checked the safeboot box,and clicked ok.It restarted normally.Went back to boot.ini and the boxes are greyed out again.
Tomk_
You could try doing a repair install and see if it fixes the problem. Here are some instructions to follow: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/instxprepair1.htm
leftydrummrr
I have a reinstallation cd. Is that a boot cd? Edited October 9, 2012 by leftydrummrr
Tomk_
Is it a Microsoft CD or one from the computer manufacturer?
leftydrummrr
Sorry, its from Dell.
Tomk_
Unfortunately... the Dell CD can be used to reformat and reinstall... but won't do a repair install. If you have any friends with a XP pro (preferably sp3) disk, you can use it. If you can borrow an XP pro disk that isn't sp3, it will work also but you will have more updates to do.
