badbinary Report post Posted May 14, 2012 i figured this forum would be more suited than general discussions, but feel free to move it if you think otherwise. anyway, just curious as to what web browsers the contributors of pcpitstop use. i've moved exclusively to chrome recently after going back and forth between ie9 and firefox. i absolutely love it, it works exactly how i want a web browser to work. so, what are the rest of you using? tacticaltal Report post Posted December 29, 2012 I see FF users with earlier versions. I'm running 17.0.1, which I believe is the latest. Anyone who can share why they aren't using the latest? Thanks
Bruce Report post Posted December 29, 2012 Did you look at the dates of the posts? FF 17 was not available when the posts were made.
KurtBleach Report post Posted December 29, 2012 It's an old thread, man (if you are a man, if not, sorry, lady). I'm on Firefox 17 now. Duane, can you try to sell me on Chrome? I had it once and I did not like how it opens up with mad baggage. I think Google is the present-day Big Brother (not the lame "reality" show - the great Orwell book). FF is clean as hell and the add-ons are sweet. To each their own, but to me Firefox rules. I even converted my 70-year-old mother to FF from IE. I can't expect her to get into Linux, but at least I got her away from Internet Exploiter.
badbinary Report post Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) chrome runs faster, has it's own built-in process manager, and uses less memory (unless they've reduced that in ff 17) also, i absolutely LOVE being able to use chrome at home, then switch to my phone and have history, etc. there, then use it at work with all the same data. i understand you may be afraid of them using the data for nefarious purposes (and that's a legitimate fear), incognito mode isn't tracked. http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=185277 Edited December 29, 2012 by badbinary

badbinary Report post Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) then don't sign in if you're so scared? the bottom line is that purely as a browser, chrome is far superior in performance to any other browser currently available. if you want true anonymity, then use the tor browser and proxies. https://www.torproject.org/about/overview.html.en Edited December 29, 2012 by badbinary
KurtBleach Report post Posted December 29, 2012 I'm not paranoid enough for Tor, man. FF with AdBlockPlus and BetterPrivacy are good enough for me. bb, if it's cool with you, maybe you could post a screenshot of when you open Chrome? I d/led it once, and it had mad icons and all crazy options. I like that my FF opens to a blank page.
