Change Mode

Computer very sluggish

Recommended Posts

Well I think I picked up a virus. Have a Dell XPS M140 running Windows XP Sp3. Have taken all the recent security updates.

Started happening about 2 days ago. Computer will not completely defrag. Have run Malwarebytes and it found nothing. Will still let me get into Safe Mode.

Internet is very slow and drags. Switching between programs is also very very slow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Willy

Well, there's only one way to be certain. Download HiJackThis > http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe

and save it to it's own folder on your desktop. Open the program and select to "Do a system scan and save a logfile". When the scan finishes it will open the log in Notepad, copy/paste the contents of the log into a new thread that you start here > http://forums.pcpits...ijackthis-logs/

Please include the SUPERAntispyware log before the HJT log. Also, please be patient our Advisors there are quite busy but they'll get to you in due time.

O.K. first of all run through the "fixes" on the first tab...your system restore should be more like 3Gb of space or less.

Tell me more about "Toolwiz Care"? I see that you have "Yahoo" messenger and etc...in my opinion Yahoo is junk, I've had it and my PC slowed to a crawl. It's because it wants to install a bunch of stuff that you don't really need. If you want Yahoo messenger try Trillian > http://www.trillian.im/windows/ it will let you use Yahoo messenger without all the "yahoo" extras. I see that you have two sets of printer drivers, do you have 2 printers? If not let's uninstall the set of drivers that you don't need...

Under the "Software" tab/Processes see about disabling the programs listed in Orange...you've got a lot of stuff running at startup.

Lets see if those changes help...keep us informed! ;)
