Viruses All Gone?

Sparks

Recommended Posts

Since yesterday morning, my computer has been EXTREMELY slow/freezing up. I use Microsoft Security Essentials and it keeps bringing up viruses, such as; ProxyBot.C, Harnig.S, and ZBot.

I'm wondering if there's a way to check if my computer is completely clean now, or if there's a mother virus lurking around.

Yes there is...download http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe and save it to it's own folder on your desktop. Then open the program and select to "Do a scan and save a log". Do Not Have HJT "fix" anything! When the scan finishes it will open the log in Notepad, copy/paste the contents of the log into a new thread that you start here > http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?/forum/25-hijackthis-logs/

Sorry, but now I've encountered another problem that makes me unable to do that.

When I start up my computer (Windows XP), I receive this message:

"Windows could not start because of an error in the software.

Please report this problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel.

Please contact your support person to report this problem."

I don't have a support person. What does this mean for my computer?

I don't have the Windows XP CD. If I have to reboot, is there any way for me to save all of my files first?

Sparks, sorry for the delay in getting back...

Can you download http://majorgeeks.co...ware_d5756.html save it on your desktop.

Run it like this...

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results
