My college daughter's computer is 4 yrs old. She mentioned to me that it was running slowly. I took a look and made some changes I hoped would be helpful. This computer may not be as slow as it was but it is far too slow. Are there things that can be done to bring it back to reasonable standards or is the standard for 4 yr old students computer and should we be conidering a new one? Thanks

You should probably be considering a new one. First check that the test was not run with the power saving options enabled. That can cause the low memory score, but it also may be that it is just slower DDR or maybe not running in dual channel mode.

For the hard drive speed you can go into the Device Manager and delete the primary and secondary IDE controllers, then reboot and Windows will install new drivers for those devices, which may help increase the speed.
