kalgal62
Hi - I just ran the tests on my laptop and I use PC Optimize and use Avast - the tests suggested I run PC Exterminator so I downloaded the program and then it went looking for updates and there were 6 new ones, it dwnloaded 3 of them and when it came to the ppfile.dat and Error 1:Error downloading file from server comes up and I cannot run the scan even if I suggest running the scan anyway, so I am assuming this ppfile.dat is very relevant to the program. I am on dial up and this file appears to have 9327650 bytes in it which just might take my computer all day to do if it could. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. PS This all happened today 10/3/
IntelGuy
Due to the size of the malware definition downloads Exterminate is really not appropriate for dial up connections. Also, being web-based, running the Exterminate program itself will be very slow on dial up. However, you may want to look at a free download manager and see if that can help the situation: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/ http://download.cnet.com/Orbit-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10600926.html?tag=mncol If the original ppfile.dat was corrupted during the download you may need to manually delete it in order to download an uncorrupted copy. Thank you for the quick reply. We can probably close this now and I will look to the free download site. Thanks again.
