Athlon Xp Compatible Games

Recommended Posts

Baldur's gate EE works.

Engine is great.

Actually preformance is better than original BG and BG2.

I can't play BG2 because ati drivers are not written for old opengl and I have major sttutering in BG2.

Now they upgraded engine and works flawlessly.

Can't wait for BG2 EE.

Baldur's Gate EE is literally just the original game & expansions pre-packaged with the various mods and fixes that are freely available.

But, they also made some terrible new areas and characters that really add nothing to the overall game.

Try ENBseries fix. This remove fps limit (you will have 5-25 fps extra). If you wan't i have older versions like v.0086 (speedimplant) and v.0087.

The Real Texas works great

Mine version of DX: HR is localized so Im in doubt if programs that can repair FPS limits can work with it, well lag only comes in cutscenes and when Im fighting with huge groups of enemies only, and this was weird :/

Hey fellas

I joined the forum just to post in this thread (which I was very excited to find - I'm a fellow Athlon XP-er still attempting to treat my machine like a the gaming collossus it once was - and I'm glad I'm not alone!!!)

After a few budget ebay-sourced upgrades, I'm kicking a Thoroughbred 2600 (133 fsb) and 7600GT. Had to flash the motherboard bios to enable SSE with the t-bred (was fine with my Palomino), and am currently installing Borderlands....

Welcome here, and for topic post: I still kept mine old PC with Athlon XP CPU and it was good choice as I can play some modern games like DX:HR. Anyway anyone tried other SE games based on DX:HR engine called Crystal engine. If that are they playable on Athlon XP ???

Well, Borderlands didn't run at all until the NVTT fix - then it loaded up, played the intro sequence...and hit some DLL issues - probably need to replace some of the ones which the fix removed. Getting system crashes at menu screen now, might be that the new bios is a bit unstable. Or possibly my PSU is hitting the limit of its talent and destabilising the system. More investigation needed...

Unity3D (web plugin) not working since the last few updates. The bad thing is, it always tries to auto-update on launch and refuses to run an old version. Very disappointing as there are some cool games that worked perfectly fine in the past...

More info and official response here.

any news on Flatout 3? edit: not working! edit2: ...but there is hope :D the devs (Team6) are very helpful and they replied to my email and said that they're working on a single-core fix which will be included in one of the upcoming patches...

not a game, but Photoshop CS5 does not work (CS4 does) and also nVidia Photoshop plugin always crashes (due to SSE2 I think)

Clipping Point is a very nice racing game, it works AND it's FREE! (85 cars etc etc...) get it here: http://xlgames.com/CP/

Adobe released a patch for Photoshop CS5 that allows it to run on AthlonXP, but it's somewhat hard to find on their site.

I can confirm that Photoshop CS5.1 Extended v.12.1 x32 works.

P.S. why is this img/ tag always added to the end of my post, huh?

Dota 2 uses the Portal 2/Alien Swarm Source Engine which lacks SSE2 support.

Splinter Cell Conviction works fine apart from running like crap.

I gave my son an Athlon XP that I slapped together with spare parts I got from my dad's non-working computer, 1.5GB RAM and an X1600XT AGP(bought this on ebay for $20 so he could play my old favorite games from mid-2000's) and his favorite games (that run well) are as follows...

Battlefield 2

FEAR

Arctic Combat (his fave and mine too for free play)

I so surprised to find a thread like this anywhere in 2013. I recently pieced together a "project" PC from old spare parts just for fun:

Athlon XP 3200+

MSI nForce2 motherboard

2GB DDR 400

X850 XT AGP

60GB OCZ Vertex Plus SSD (yes, an SSD!)

Windows XP

1920x1200

Only have loaded a few games on it so far. I've been playing Torchlight for the first time and it runs perfectly at max settings @ 1920x1200. Haven't used FRAPs, but its utterly smooth. Going to go through this thread to see what it can still do. I'll probably just put old games on it (like 2006 back).

Welp, looks like the Unity engine only uses SSE2 now so any game made in the past year and oward probably won't work.
