If you choose not to reformat

Can you download the following to a CD or some other external harddrive

And run the scanners from there

Download Malwarebtyes

Install it

Then Update it

Run Scanner

http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Download SuperAntiSpyware

Install it

Then Update it

Run Scanner

http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

both scanners can save a log file

finally do the following

Download HijackThis!

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/th.../hijackthis.php

Start a new topic in our HJT forums

http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?showforum=25

Right click on HijackThis.exe

Click 'Do a System Scan and Save the logfile'.

The HJT log will open in notepad.

Copy and paste the HJT log from notepad in that new topic

Please be patient as we have a lot of people with malware infections

and all of our HJT Trusted Advisors work on many

forums

GOOD LUCK

Edward

Froggiez, download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop

http://majorgeeks.com/download5756.html

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

*update it, then re-name it, something like "froggiez.exe"

Now, copy it to your "clean" flash drive .... on your kid's computer, go offline, then install and run it.

* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.

* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

***Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.

Download and create the Ultimate Boot CD on a working machine, here http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,...escription.html

Once the CD has been made, boot your PC into the CD. It has its own operating system so you will have full access to your infected hard drive. Built into the CD you get a number of ‘anti’ programs. Just run them and select your hard drive files. Follow the instructions for each of the programs to remove malware.

Alternatively, try the Avira rescue CD, here http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/12/avira_a...cue_system.html

Burr,

How do I boot from the cd? I tried to run malware in safe mode with networking and it still would not open. I am downloading the cd you recommended to my laptop as we speak and will burn it to a cd, then what do I do? Its been so long since I have worked on a pc my memory is lacking.... :)

You have to set the BIOS to boot from an optical drive. When you switch on, look for ‘Set up’ (or similar wording) and start tapping that key to enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence to make the DVD/CD drive the first device. The key varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but it will probably be Del, F1 or F2.

ok so I went into bios and tried to change to boot from cd rom but when I did the screen went black and it said hit F1 to try and reboot, I did and it just kept saying hit F!

Normally that ‘Hit F1 key’ message means you have a hardware problem. It could be the optical drive that is defective!

You said you thought you were hijacked/infected! So, we (you) are trying to remove, at least some of, the infection. If you’re successful and can boot normally, you must run MBAM or HJT.
