Laptop suddenly shuts down

Recommended Posts

I have a Samsung SENS R19 running Vista.

For the past few days, at any random point while surfing, the machine just suddenly turns off. I am able to start up again.

It can happen after several hours, or right after I start up.

I am guessing it is related to some game sites that the kids like to download from. I tried System Restore a couple of times, but I still get the same problem.

Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

1. Please give us more information on your Anti-virus, Anti-spyware programs and what you've scanned with.

2. Your system specs ... I see "Windows XP Pro V. 2002 SP2"

are drivers up to date?

are all Windows important/critical security updates downloaded and installed? ( it doesn't look like it)

3. The more information you give us with the details of your personal Security programs and what you've done, the better we can advise about what you should do.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. I have it set to automatically update, but that happens at 3am when the machine is usually off. And I see that two updates are waiting to install, so I am doing that now.

I use Avast anti-virus (free edition), and I thought I had Spybot, but it seems the program is gone while its folder and some files is still in Program Files. WTH?

I use the Windows firewall and Windows Defender.

Could it be just the updates?

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop

http://majorgeeks.com/download5756.html

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.

* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.

* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.

After clicking on the desktop icon, I got an error saying it was "not a valid Win32 application."

After clicking on the desktop icon, I got an error saying it was "not a valid Win32 application."

What can I do now?

Well, I tried re-downloading it and it worked!

However when I installed this, I now got this error code: 732 (0,0)

Anyone know what is going on?

Despite the error, MalwareBytes installed. I ran it. It found and removed one infection.

Here is the log:

Earlier today, I removed the ad.yieldmanager.com cookie I happened to find. And for almost 24 hours now and before the scan, I have not experienced the shutdown.

Can this have something to do with temperatures? It always seemed to run hot, but maybe leaving it on now for longer periods leads to overheating?
