Outlook crash - mspst.dll error

Recommended Posts

I can't figure this problem out.

We have a client running Windows XP Pro SP2. The computer is on a domain. They are using MS Outlook 2003 SP2 on an exchange server. User has various PST files added to Outlook.

Periodically when user is working in Outlook she gets the following error - Outlook then restarts:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Office 11
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: date
Time: time
User: username
Computer: computername
Description: Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.6353.0, stamp 408f2937, faulting module mspst32.dll, version 11.0.6357.0, stamp 40b65fc5, debug? 0, fault address 0x0001b745.

I tried the suggestions in the following MS KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912805

I disabled PAE - that did not help.

We tried repairing and re-installing office - that didn't help

We even tried removing 2 GB of memory - users laptop had 4 GB total

The issue happens randomly - with different PST files - and sometimes it happens even if user is not working with the PST files.

Not sure what to try next :pullhair:

is it set to use word as the editor?

it's possible that it's an issue with word and not outlook, try doing a repair of word. word -> help -> detect and repair.

you can also try disabling all add-ins and see if that fixes it, then re-add the add-ins one by one.

another thing, is you can try deleting and creating a new profile for the user.
