SpootieHorse
I use AVG for anti spyware/anti virus and it expires on April 30th. What program that is free to download and use that's reeeally good at protecting the computer from both viruses and spyware? My dad said to download McAFee only cuz he uses it but I don't hear about it and plus hear it's somehow associated with AOL and in a way that makes me think it's just crap. Is there a list of really good anti spyware/anti virus programs to use? Thanks and much appreciated in advanced!
Wademan
Hello SpootieHorse' I would not use AVG again as it has way too many "False/positives", meaning flagged malware that really isn't malware. We that work in pc security field have seen hundreds of False/Positives from AVG and it takes much time just to convince the person its not really malware at all. I highly recommend Avast> http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html Offers both of what you want. You did say free Anti Virus+ Spyware protection. There isn't much to offer that has both, and is very good, and is free. Avast is one. McAfee is not free. You want the best paid, go with Kaspersky suite 9.0, it is what I use personally an at the business. Half price> http://www.amazon.com/Kaspersky-Internet-S...5640&sr=1-1 But as for Free get Avast, you wont be disappointed...remember remove AVG completely before installing Avast. Use this tool to do so> http://www.avg.com/download-tools Select AVG Remover(32bit) (avgremover.exe) Then install Avast ( its ok to download Avast before this to speed up your protection, but don't install it until AVG is fully gone using the removal tool ) Wademan Edited April 29, 2009 by Wademan

markcynt
Just curious, how can a free version expire?? I don't know about AVG but Avast needs to be renewed yearly, even though it's free.
Wademan
Hello SpootieHorse. You are misreading what it says, it says> " avast! antivirus Home Edition is FREE to use but it is necessary to register before the end of the initial 60 day trial period. Following the registration you will receive by e-mail a license key valid for a period of 1 year. After you have downloaded and installed the program, the license key must be inserted into it within 60 days. The registration process is very easy, and it will take you only a couple of minutes." So register here> http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html an then download Avast an check your email for the license key an enter it, then you are good to go. Sorry you was misreading or understanding it. It is a great AV program, 100% free. Wademan
