Same here, it's all I recommend when they're available. They're less expensive than WD and faster w/ less cache.

a single half tb hitachi deskstar

 

uane-dev:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda

Timing buffered disk reads: 408 MB in  3.01 seconds = 135.36 MB/sec

edit: one more

 

duane-dev:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads:   9040 MB in  2.00 seconds = 4523.51 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 410 MB in  3.01 seconds = 136.38 MB/sec

played around with some settings and it seems to have increased performance a bit on the intel x25, 40gb ssd (which is now /dev/sdd):

 

sudo hdparm -t -T /dev/sdd

/dev/sdd:
Timing cached reads:   23312 MB in  2.00 seconds = 11668.05 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 620 MB in  3.01 seconds = 206.09 MB/sec

also tested with ubuntu's disc utility:

just wondering if they will speed up my ssd.

 

/dev/sda:

Timing cached reads: 10496 MB in 2.00 seconds = 5252.81 MB/sec

Timing buffered disk reads: 612 MB in 3.01 seconds = 203.44 MB/sec
