Strong Rock
Computers can seem to run slow for many reasons. There are no magic tricks to speed up a slow computer. One must try to determine the nature of the slowness and what factors are causing it. Is it always slow, or just sometimes? If sometimes, then when is the slowness noticed? Does it take forever for the computer to start up? Are there any error messages or other warnings? Occasional slowness can be due to software errors. It may be noticed when running a particular task, but not at other times. The discussion here concerns that more constant and pervasive slowness that affects everything one tries to do on the computer. The following will give you a good start at diagnosing and correcting issues that slow your computer down. ............... So, if your computer takes a really long time to start up, and another forever to obey your mouse clicks, then you've got a slow computer. Here are some of the most common causes, ranked roughly in order of frequency. * Too many programs and processes runnning * Malicious processes running * Inadequate RAM * Hard drive errors, capacity, or fragmentation issues * Inadequate processor speed * Other hardware issues http://www.colby-sawyer.edu/information/te...owcomputer.html Sourcecode: David Levine, Tech Specialist Edited to comply: "Do not post full copies of copyrighted articles from elsewhere on the Internet, post a link to the article instead." http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?act=boardrules .........Y kawika........... TomGL2
Man Of The Future, it's great that you've credited the original source. Doing so, however, does not confer the right to place a copy on another site, because it is copyrighted material. Colby-Sawyer appears to take violations seriously, so it might be a good idea to edit your post to reduce the copied content to a reasonable amount, and link to the original. A "reasonable amount" is widely considered to be at most 400 words (about 3KB), and you can Google "doctrine of fair usage" for guidelines.
Strong Rock
Sorry for that guys, I meaned very well, the next time when I see another important message than I will only place the link with the sourcecode, the sourcecode is very important too.

Y kawika
first of all - slow computer syndrome is vieuses, malware, spyware, hijackers Not always jacklazara. You can experience Slow Computer Sydrome with a clean computer. The article does a good job of spelling it all out. Case and point: Many brand new computers come loaded with too much "teaseware" (software tryouts or offers) that actually slows the system down, especially if the hardware configuration is inadequate. http://www.colby-sawyer.edu/information/te...owcomputer.html Another discussion about "Bloatware" here: http://pcpitstop.com/news/video/bloatware.asp Virus, malware, etc. can play a part, but they are hardly "first of all" or all inclusive to the slowing of a computer. :)Y
JDPower
Not always jacklazara. You can experience Slow Computer Sydrome with a clean computer. Don't take his posts too seriously, he's a spammer (the links in his sig are the spam), this is not the only forum he's stumbled into recently to post spurious comments just to spam with the sig links. Unfortunately this forum doesn't seem to have a 'Report post' button anywhere or any way of reporting any spam, abuse etc so it's even easier for spammers to go uncaught

I saw this important message and thought that is a good job for the Pitsters. Slow down syndrome: There are many things that the computer can be slow down. When my computer is slow what I will doing than? Allright than, I will check for hijackers via hijackthis and remove that when I have that, than I check for viruses, adware, I look via Spybots for Spyware and I looking with system internals in the program Spybots to deleted files; when a file will be delete than it will be delete logical and not fysical with system internals you will be delete the logical deleted files, after Spybots I looking via CCleaner for errors in my systemregistry, than I will reboot my computer and I going to the repairpartition and I run chkdks /p from the systemdrive, in the most cases you get the message chkdsk has found one or more errors on the volume, than I will run chkdsk /r and the volume will be repairs. After this I entering exit and the system will go back to Windows in Windows at the desktop I will check via defraggler or my hd. is fragment, than I will the harddisk defrag, I reboot the computer again, after this all my computer works fine. In some cases hardware can also give troubles, but when my computer will be slow down than I don't think at hardware problems. But one thing is sure: Hijackers, viruses, spyware, adware, dirty registry, bad volume, fragmented hd. that are things that make your computer slow down.
