It's horrible. Don't ever in your life, ever think about purchasing such a monstrosity.

The 3850 is quite a bit more expensive, but it will use quite a bit less power. Although, the reason I recommend the 2900 is because you said your budget was ~$150.

Edit: Go with Caintry's link. Definitely worth it.

Uh, the 3850 slaughters the 8600, last time I checked...

Proof: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3151&p=8

And this: http://techreport.com/articles.x/13603/5

http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=704&p=7 49% slower on average, across this range of benchmarks

Look where the 8600GTS is consistently, as compared to the 3850. ;)

Yea i was really thinking about getting a ATI HD3850. it seems to be faster then my 8600gts. although im currently running some outstanding overclocks with my card. so i cant see it being a worthy upgrade for me.

but if i was in the market i would deffinetly get a ATI 3850.

You can overclock the 3850 too. And you'd need a massive overclock to even have hopes of competing with the 3850. But, overclock the 3850, and there is just no chance of it ever competing.

BB: Definitely go for that 3850. Overclock it, and have yourself a 3870 on the cheap. Make sure you don't tell Minnie you got it though. You've already exhausted your allowance on that cheeseburger you got from McDonalds.

http://www.hothardware.com/articles/ATI_Ra..._RV670/?page=11 The 3850 overclocks fairly well.

Minnie told me.

An exact quote of what she told me: "Blah blah blah! Cheeseburger! Blah blah blah! Allowance! Badbinary, blah blah blah!"

I don't speak woman, but that is what I gathered.

yeah, that's the thing. i'm wondering just how much that thing can be overclocked without changing the heatsink and fan. i'm inclined to spend 20 bucks more and get the powercolor with the zalman heatsink/fan.
