sygate firewall

Recommended Posts

I have been using sygate fiewall for sometime now. But i found out that they no longer have support for sygate and it's own by norton which in fact are promoting something new. Can anyone recommend comodo as an alternative. Which other free firewall can i use.

The following FREE versions are:

Zone Alarm free:

http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...=US&lang=en

PDF documention for Zone Alarm available here:

http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/sup...a/znalmMain.jsp

If you are going to try Zone Alarm I suggest to just install the basic firewall so the bundled trial AV does not get installed.

Comodo free:

http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Tutorial for install:

http://www.nordicnature.net/tutorials/index.html

Sunbelt kerio:

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-...ewall/Download/

PDF documentation for Sunbelt Kerio available here:

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-.../Documentation/

Jetico free:

Test your Firewall and make sure it is working properly.

Note: You must only use 1 (one) Firewall at a time because if you have 2 or more Firewalls running at the same time, they will conflict with each other and make your security less reliable.

The above are known good free Firewalls available for personal use. If one conflicts with your system, try another.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of available ones see the link Here

I have just installed Comodo 3 on my Vista system (the first firewall ever that has worked) and it is a bit of a pain whilst it is learning, but not to heavy on resources. I think I like it

Yes it is a bit of a pain. We came to a mutual dislike for each other  ...I went back to free Zone Alarm on my two Vistas.

Used to run Sygate, but changed to Online Armor. Similar to Sygate and also has HIPS. Passes all the Comodo tests.

Sygate was great in it's day, but as support was discontinued a long time ago now I wont use it because there may be stuff out that can get in past it now, ZA is my preferred choice, simple to use and effective, but some have issues with it, Commodo is also highly thought of, although I have never used it, that is until today, it is the 1st firewall I have seen for vista 64bit, so installed it on the nightmare build earlier to see how it goes, vista picks up it has a firewall when you disable it's own one so it seems to go well with it, but I installed it as the simple version as the person it's going to knows little about such things, and TBH I'm struggling to get to grips with it, but ZA only works with 32bit ATM, no idea why I can't get a lucky break with this system, but in answer to your question Commodo is well respected.

Comodo is a good choice. Its the only free Pro firewall I've ever found. Its got everything without having to pay for anything. It even handles Denial of Service [DoS] attacks. Its the strongest firewall by far and very customisable. The only problem I had with it was how painful it was while it was learning. When the learning process was over, it was fine.

I'm sticking with Comodo's firewall. Its just too good.
