Problem with a Windows Update

Recommended Posts

I'm having a problem with an update installing . The update is for IE6 running on a W2K installation. I have automatic updates set to notify when a update is available, then I see what it is and install it. I've applied this update about a dozen times today. It's the same update. I don't get a prompt to restart the computer afterward so for the first few times I installed, I didn't restart. I have restarted on all of the last several times. Still keep getting the "Updates Ready " prompt in the systray.

The update is listed as "Critical Update for IE 6 sevice pack 1" KB831167. I guess I could turn off automatic updates. I'm retrying the installation as I type this...

The reinstall didn't work.

I seem to have it fixed now. I went straight to Microsoft downloads and downloaded IE 6 service pack 1 and the KB831167 update. I reinstalled service pack 1 then restarted. Installed the KB831167 and restarted...everything seems ok now...Geezzz..what a pain!
