5.1 speaker set! please help

Recommended Posts

hi everybody

merry christmas

been out and bought myself a creative 5.1 speaker set.

come to a little problem when setting it up!

i know i have on board 5.1 sound but i only have 1 sound output at the back of my computer!

the speaker set has 3 wires (front rear and center/subwoofer wires)!

so i cant conect it all up!

does anyone know how i can solve this?

or should i just get myself a seperate sound card?

any help would be great!

thanks ian

yup, sounds like your pc on board sound isn't 5.1 so you'll need to get a seperate sound card capable of 5.1 audio output

ok then thanks

what sort of money shoud i be paying for a half decent 5.1 sound card?

also what sort of difficulty level would it be installing a new sound card?

thanks again

It could be that you do not have 5.1 sound, but some cards (like mine and the one in the link above, I believe) have inputs that configure to outputs for the 5.1. It is done in the control panel of the card, I think--I've never used mine because 2.1 suits me.

FFrules is right..

My motherboard has 7.1 SS, and I have the Klipsch Ultras and it only has three plugs, Click on the Realtek audio Icon speakers settings and make sure 5.1 is on (you may have to scroll to it) then just make sure the color is in the right spot ie green in for line in black etc you get my meaning..

As for a good audio card I would go soundblaster, somthing like this

check the manual for the proper bios settings.

in the device manager, look to see if you have the sound drivers installed too

Most likely you will need to configure the software from 2 channel to 5.1 after you have done that you will be in 5.1 mode.

If your sound card only has 3 jacks then you will lose microphone and line in/out because 5.1 requires all 3 jacks.

You will need to look in the manual to see where in the software to change the speaker configuration and what colour plugs go where.
