Resetting hit counter. Help needed

Recommended Posts

I have downloaded a free hit counter for my website, but it is reading 12000 +. This is the code <!-- start of bbcounter -->

<!--//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////-->

<!--// bbCounter last modified 08 August 2003.-->

<!--// Copyright Bacon Buttie 2003. All rights reserved.-->

<!--// By Bacon Buttie ([email protected]).-->

<!--//-->

<!--// This counter is free to use, don't abuse.-->

<!--///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////-->

<div align='center' name='bbgcounter' id='bbgcounter'><a href='http://www.baconbuttie.co.uk/' target='_blank'>

<img src='http://tools.baconbuttie.co.uk/bbgcounter.asp?t=10&lid=40&u=0' border='0'></a></div>

<!-- end of bbcounter -->

How can I reset it?

Thanks.

You won't be able to directly alter the html code to change the number of hits on the counter, you'll have to go to their website... and either log in with an account you might have set up or create another counter, depending on the system used there.

I'm not well versed with the hit counter technology. but i could suggest a good hit counter service. Statcounter is really good and one can rely on it. Hope this post is not considered as a spam.

Statcounter is a form of spyware and is used to track users over multiple domains. Most anti-spyware software flags Statcounter as cookie spyware, and every HOSTS protection utility that I have used includes the statcounter.com domain in it. I would highly advise against using it.

Does your host not offer statistics from within your control panel?

Hit counters generally look very unprofessional so if this is any sort of business website, I would advise not putting a hit counter up.

So the last option would be the stat from the host itself. I think even google has some analytics.

Yeah, Google Analytics is a good one as well if you can't get it form your host. Very simple to set up as well.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions, folks. And sorry about the delay in replying. I have now installed a fresh counter which seems to be OK.
