tinabop
Been using exterminate for a week. Yesterday started getting error message that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any suggestions?
IntelGuy
Thank you for contacting PC Pitstop. We have been able to replicate the same error, with a DrWatson startup, as well. An uninstall/reinstall failed to resolve the issue. For now it appears that it is a problem with the update server. It is estimated that the server will be back online sometime on Monday. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We are working to speed up a resolution.

Motozappa
I myself am having the same problem using Exterminate on two of my PC's, so you can rule out your PC's! I have contacted the technical support team at PC Pitstop & I am sure this will rectified shortly The following is a copy of my response: Hello Tech Person, I am sure you are aware of this situation, although it is quite a recent development. When I try to run Exterminate it generates an error once you choose "scan". It opens well but then crashes. I am using Exterminate 1.0.0.31, Scan Engine Version 5.6.8.8 and then here is the deal the Detection Signature Timestamp in about shows "Could not open ppinfo.dat". My assumption is that when exterminate goes to scan it looks for an update first (I can not remember if there is a choice once I get past the scan button)? Anyway I think it does contact the PC Pitstop or another server and from what I just read in the PC Pitstop Forum, the server is currently, well let's say confused! Of course, this brings up the windows error reporting window and I can view the technical data however, when I choose submit it then brings up a Dr Watson error. So, basically I can not see what is causing either error! I just tried the program once again to see the error info, which I thought I may paste here, but it is a long string of text and I can always extract from ~LOCALS.., if you want it! Besides that, I didn't sent the error this time and I noticed in the upper right hand corner of the Exterminator window that it is in fact, looking for updates. Just for your reference, these errors replicate themselves on both of my PC's. Please let me know when you arrive at a fix or if you need further information to help you draw to a conclusion. Sincerely, Dan (Motozappa) PS. I am going to (have) post(ed) this in the PC Pitstop (Paid Products) Forum.

igabalot
I can not update Exterminater successfully, it "always" says there has been an error and windows has to close. It was my first time trying to get updates yesterday and "today" same problem. I have tried several times even rebooting doesn't help. Not fixed for me don't know what to do. IntelGuy
I'm sorry to hear the software is not performing properly. The first thing to try is a complete uninstall/reinstall: Go to Start>Programs>PC Pitstop>Exterminate >uninstall PC Pitstop Exterminate and run the uninstaller. Once that completes, go to My Computer>C:\>Program Files>PC Pitstop>Exterminate and delete the entire Exterminate folder. Then go to Start>Run>type "regedit" without the quotes and hit the 'enter'key. Once the registry editor opens, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PCPitstop\Exterminate and delete that folder as well. Now do a reinstall with a new copy of the program from here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/store/service.asp You will need your license key for this procedure.
