Hello ArtfullySedated,

Welcome to the PC Pitstop Forums! My name is Tim. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:

1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!

2. Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,

and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed

3. Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly.

Hello ArtfullySedated,

It looks like you are running two firewall programs at one time that is bad. When runing two virus or firewall programs at one time can cause all kinds of conflicts system freezes, slow downs , and crashes systems is unstable here is more informations on what happens when running two AV,s.

You have to disable one or uninstall one. If your subscription has expired and you can't get updates then that would be the one and out of date scanner is the same as not having one at all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although Incredimail is considered to be a legitimate program that people install intentionally, please read this information regarding Incredimail very carefully and use you best judgment in deciding if you want to keep this program on your computer or not.

The use of Incredimail opens your system to attacks, and in the User Agreement, claims permanent ownership of everything sent through their mail service. See the full article. I read this article and noticed the date was 10/10/02 so just in case the information had changed since then and was no longer a concern, I downloaded Incredimail from Incredimail's site. Before installing, I read the EULA and there it was still. It may be worthwhile to fix it with HijackThis. Uninstall using Control Panel>Add/ Remove Programs. This is the item to fix in HijackThis:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [incrediMail] C:\Program Files\IncrediMail\bin\IncMail.exe /c

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is next:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

I disabled the Norton's firewall.

I'll take the Incredimail under advisement.

I downloaded the ewido. I am unable to boot up in Safe Mode, either through the Administrator account or the 1 user account. The same thing happens with either account. It will begin to go into the safe mode, it will flash the screen asking if you want to continue booting up into safe mode, then that screen disappears before the "Yes" or "No" options can be clicked. Then it stops loading the safe mode screen.

I'll await further instructions.
