More than 80% of people who make over $150k a year had music in their backgrounds. Sang, played etc. Music teaches you how to listen, concentrate and find harmony with others.

Nope. It's turning black but you can see what's being pasted still. The only thing that's happening to that screen is I'm adding a bunch of crap to it because I'm holding down the control and c way too long. It seems to happen in a flash!

If you want to add your Tech Express link to your profile, when you paste this:

it gets turned into this: http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=7MDVHWM4VBVSQ8LV |

so the space at the end needs to be removed so it goes back to this:

So I'm thinking adding that might not be such a great idea. I'll play with all the options for a while and see what kind of profile I can come up with that I'm satisfied with. How about the pix. do those come from.....another SM.....can't remember what it was that made me think that might be the baby. Not emoticons......d**n you shouldn't have reminded me about my memory problems!

BTW It sometimes takes me a little longer to reply because I'm not a very fast nor accurate typer so I make mistakes and have to fix them.

The pix are added from remote hosting, but you can upload an avatar to the PC Pitstop server.

(I sometimes don't get all my typing mistakes corrected before posting. Edit is my friend.)

Frankly, I'm stumped by the Optimize problem. It errors out in Safe Mode, which would indicate a hardware problem, but the tracert looks excellent, which says everything is OK. Are you behind a router, wireless or otherwise?

If so, can you try bypassing the router and connecting directly to the DSL modem?

Router? I see that all over the place but thought it had something to do with being on a network. I have a line that is plugged into the phone jack then there's a 'splitter'? I think it's called. That plugs into my DSL modem and the DSL modem plugs into my puter. I will be going to a wireless modem here in the next few months but imagine the way this is set up will basically be the same. Right?

So am I behind a router?

The only time I feel like there's a problem with my speed is when I run the PC Pitstop tests. Maybe I need to uninstall and then reinstall Optimize. I also have the Erase and DNA programs. Haven't installed either of them yet but at this point I'm a little gun shy, to say the least.

Actually....I have the problems both with my Optimize program and when I run the full tests from your website. Hmmmm.

Nope, no router.

You can try a complete uninstall/reinstall Optimize.

Go to Start>Programs>PC Pitstop>Optimize>uninstall PC Pitstop Optimize and run the uninstaller. Once that completes, go to My Computer>C:\>Program Files>PC Pitstop>Optimize and delete the entire Optimize folder.

Reboot the computer, then do a reinstall with a new copy of the program from here:

Well........I did as you said but I think I ran into a problem. SHOCK and awe!!!!

I have the Optimize in a bundle with Erase and DNA. Actually had 2 separate folders with all of them in there. I did the uninstall, then went in and deleted the Optimize from them. When I did the reinstall something came up that said the installer already exists, do I want to install anyway. I said yes. When I went to run it I got that same damned cannot connect :filtered:.

So.....how do I get rid of the Optimize without losing my Erase and DNA? Should I make a new folder for each of them so it only leaves Optimize? Then go through the steps?

Actually, I thought I knew how to do that but I just went in there and I guess I don't. Thought I could just make a new folder then drag those programs to it. I'll work a few more minutes on it but you may have gone to bed already so if I don't hear back within a few minutes, I'll just wait till tomorrow and see what you suggest.

It just dawned on me that I think I remember seeing that I could go and re.......wait...let me go doublecheck.

If you purchased from Computer Associates as a bundle, that may account for DNA being included.

Still, the directory tree in My Computer should look like this for Optimize and Erase:

It's been another one of those days. Firsst chance I've had to get here. I've got way too many things going on in my life and feel like none of them are getting the undivided attention they need. Some of the biggest ones are time sensitive to. Feel like I'm running out of time.

When I click on My Computer it doesn't bring up the tree like you show. I have seen that elsewhere and can get to it (when I remember how) but it doesn't show a PC Pitstop folder either. When I click My computer it shows two folders, Local Disk C, Drive D and E, My Sharing Folders, and the Life Cam. When I click on one of the folders it shows several folders and assorted Logo type files etc. It also shows two folders with the Optimize-DNA-Erase in them. One is in a zipped format, the other isn't. Of course I named them. They are the ones I went into and deleted the Optimizer from after the uninstall.

Undoubtedly this mess is because of my erroneous attempts at "doing the right thing", and I've ended up putting and naming things inappropriately and causing myself and you much grief. You must really hate people like me who make such messes.

So coach, how do I fix this fine mess I've gotten myself in? I'm certain that I seem like the dumbest person you've tried to help. Sorry. It's made it so trying to resolve one problem always leads to another problem. Thanks once again IntelGuy, for all of your help in trying to remedy my mess and problems. You have no idea how grateful I am for having found you.

So.....what's next?

Try it from Start>Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer and see if you can bring up the tree that way.

For the record, I don't think this will resolve the skipped RWIN issue, but I'm completely stumped and this is the only thing that hasn't been tried. Besides, I've been wrong before. Often.

OK, just for my benefit, our goal is:

1) to uninstall Optimize using the uninstaller at Start>Programs>PC Pitstop>Optimize>uninstall PC Pitstop Optimize

2) to delete the Optimize folder at My Computer\C:\Local Drive\Program Files\PC Pitstop

3) to reinstall with a new version of Optimize from here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/store/service.asp

Hey there! Happy hump day.

When I do the most recent steps you gave me it brings up the tree on the left but the only folder that has any reference to Pitstop now only has the Erase install and the DNA. I deleted the Optimize through our last trip.

The only thing that's showing in the PC Pitstop folder is a driver alert program. Start>Programs>PC Pitstop> Optimize>uninstall PC Pitstop Optimize....there's no reference or option for anything to do with Optimize.

When I did this in our last step........"Go to Start>Programs>PC Pitstop>Optimize>uninstall PC Pitstop Optimize and run the uninstaller. Once that completes, go to My Computer>C:\>Program Files>PC Pitstop>Optimize and delete the entire Optimize folder."...... I could only delete the file within the folder because, as I said, Erase install and DNA are in the same folder. When I go to the folders on my desktop it"s still showing an Optimize setup file though. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 3 or 4 times, deleting everything I can find about Optimize. Each time I still get the message that it already exists and do I want to update to this version, do I want to install files over old ones etcetera.

Unfortunately I just got a call from my daughter inlaw and my grandson is being admitted to the hospital for seizures. They have two other young kids and need me to come ASAP to stay with them. They live 2 hours away (without traffic) and are having a neighbor keep them until I can get up there. Obviously there's no way of telling how long I'll be there. They had asked me to come up tomorrow and spend a few days so we could celebrate my birthday, which is November 16th. I had to turn down the offer, which I've never done before. As I've mentioned, I have way, way to much going on and they're all time sensitive and very stressful to me.

Yada, yada, yada. Sorry. I know you don't need and probably don't want this much information, and this is not really the format to be talking about personal matters. Sorry. It's just that we've been 'talking' every day for a while now and I feel like I want to explain to you why I'll be "out to lunch or in a meeting" so to speak, for a while. Some things just have to move to the top of the list of priorities.

I will be back as soon as I can. It could be as late as after Thanksgiving. But then I have a daughter flying in who will be here until some time in January so I'm not sure how many of my 'urgent' projects I'll be getting done during that time. Also, after Xmas I have to pack up my house and find a new place to live. There are many parameters surrounding that project that make it extremely restrictive.

There I go again. I apologize. I've been accused of having diarrhea of the mouth. I'm confident that you'll be here whenever I do get back. Best prediction of future behavior being past behavior and all that.

Thank you so much IntelGuy. I'm looking forward to our next encounter and we'll pick back up where I'm dropping the ball now.
