"ActiveX is not supported" in IE6, winxp-sp2

Recommended Posts

i am having problems with activex, obviously, when trying to do windows/office update.

in internet explorer 6 (update version: sp2, 3283) in windows xp pro SP2:

i got "PC Pitstop utility did not load" from page http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/loadctl.asp

and got "ActiveX is not supported " from page http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp

i don't see information bar for "activex control"

tried customized security level for activeX as suggested in this site, it doesn't help.

note that when go tools-->manage add-ons, i have acrobat, flashget extentions working fine. i also welcome a method to delete those those add-ons so that i can add back one by one later. i don't see a way to remove, instead to disable, yet.

thank you very much,

shen

thank you for the link.

i was able to do windows/office update now.

normally i will do it via start-->all programs-->windows update and this fails.

when i follow 304498 and do it from http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp to go directly to V6, it seemed no problem to me. (temp files cleaned as always for step 0)

i wasn't greeted with expected information bar with 'activex control' during this process. and i still got the same results from this site's testing suite:

in internet explorer 6 (update version: sp2, 3283) in windows xp pro SP2:

i got "PC Pitstop utility did not load" from page http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/loadctl.asp

and got "ActiveX is not supported " from page http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp

i don't see information bar for "activex control"

i am happy now anyway as i do not use activex that often, as long as i can do windows update. my browser opera never prompts me for some activex.

thanks, shen

Sounds like ActiveX is completely broken. The Office and Windows Update FAQs have some procedures that might help:
