got a question, can I change the stripe size from Windows or in the Bios, or will I have to format to do that? The only reason I ask is that on my music drive the average file size is 7MB, from my readings I'd like to try some larger stripes on that drive and see how it goes.

Thanks.

to change stripe, you must reformat and start over, for music/videos, I suggest the 128K stripe.

Scores on a system that says it has a problem with the raid setup:

16 - 79429 132382

32 - 152305 165150

64 - 149159 200802

128 - 100925 247726

256 - 117440 269746

512 - 203161 270270

1024 - 218344 270532

System Restore is ON

Cluster size = 64

4 x 200gig WD SE 7200 (8mb) in 0+1

Seems OK, especially with a "degraded" array, supposedly.

Go here, http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=111443 and see what I ask in U2U.

Thanks

:)

Scores after the repairing of a disc and the restoring of the striped and mirrored array

16 - 65011 231735

32 - 126877 356515

64 - 78057 346030

128 - 79691 501219

256 - 83886 527433

512 - 94136 527433

1024 - 99666 536870

Interesting, the write speeds have halved as they get higher, but the read scores have doubled.

Curious result.

Here are two scores for you. Both are with 4 80 gb Hitachis Sata 2 drives 64K Strip & 4 kb Cluster size. Both tests are Win XP Pro with System Restore on.

Using the drives as Sata Drive.

Same drives 5 minutes later with Sata 2 Enabled.

coool shiny case mark, excellent. How do you keep your HDD cool, man I have this awesome case, it was one of the best aluminium cases actually, the Gigabyte 3d Aurora Series

but the only prob is, I have 2 HDD in right now, and they are both screaming at 40 + degrees C. Now there is a case Fan right behind it, check out the reviews. Here is a modified picture, where the circle is, behinf the HDD bay is the 120mm Fan, still the HDD's are so hot Posted Image

Any suggestion.

Thanks

Hi again miggs78. :adios:

I was gonna get that case (Aurora) but the HDD cage has poor cooling.

I knew I was gonna use 4 HDDs(in Raid0) so I put a 80 mm fan in front and used a hole saw to cut a 3" hole in the metal so the air had nothing in its way.

my hdds are front to back with the wires hidden in front (better for airflow)

Than I have the Video card cooler behind them blowing the air out the back.

Up top I have the 3 fans blowing out the back also.

I spent about three days cutting and fitting the 7 fans to make them work best. And another day managing the cables

I used all Arctic Cooling fans (very very quiet) and the comp is quieter than my Lego comp with 1 fan.

hey that sounds coool, why not take a clear pic for the interior of the case, that shows the 7fans, plus the HDD case, I would love to see that. Coz' I am not gonna spend 40-50 dollars on getting 4 hdd coolers, not enclosures, actual coolers, and another prob is they take two 3.5 drives spaces, I don't have much HDD space. But according to the specs, it says the case has 5 internal 3.5" bays, and 2 external ones

Thanks mark, but pics would be gr8, thanx

Thats why I loved this case( I wish it was aluminum though) there is room for 6 HDDs.

And those HDD coolers wouldnt fit in ur case(they hog up space.)

i took picts so when I am done programming win64 in a hour or 2 , i will show you the other picts.

PS Just be happy you dont have 4 Raptors, They are even hotter...
