Change Mode

x2 Intel or AMD

Recommended Posts

Time to build a new PC.

Intel Pentium 4 930 Dual Core "LGA775 Presler" 3.0GHz (800FSB) - Retail

is roughly the same PRICE as:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - Retail

I'll sort out the graphics and other stuff later!

I do a lot of gaming, encoding and folding, but like to overclock cos I'm a cheapskate. ;)

Any good thoughts, links or own experience of either of these processors.

I plan to start ordering this Monday!

:help:

If you're looking for a big OC, then go the Presler route. On the other hand, if you're looking for a cool running, efficient, decently overclockable processor, go with the X2.

Yep, gotta agree. I LOVE my 165 Opteron. Default is 9x200 but I'm running 9x302=2.7. That is using the stock retail heatsink and fan. That is 100% dual prime and game stable. I'm not saying you'll be as lucky on getting a good one but most of the Optys are good to about 2.6. Infact this chip does 2.6 @1.42 Vcore and [email protected] Vcore. Since the multi is a low one be sure to get some memory that is rated to speeds high enough to top it out.
