First off forgive me cos i'm an ameteur :blushing:

I got the spyaxe [email protected] in me PC last night, soon as it arrived i ran Cleanup, did a system restore, the turned system restore off and back on and all that left me with was one empty folder in C drive named spyaxe, deleited that and havn't had i back since :bananaxmas:

The PC has been switched of and on a few times and no spyaxe pops ups :bananaxmas:

Checked it with the pistop virus checker and 4 others and no sign of it.

From what i can see after removall it hides in system restore so turning it off and back on deleites the files it hides in.

Can anyone see any problem with doing it that way or am i likely to still have it hidden somewhere, the PC is running fine and no pop ups?

I posted the following on the fixmyxp site, which I had copied from another site

just cleaned up a PC with this problem. not only do you have to clean out

mssearchnet you also have to clean out nvctrl mscornet possably others.

I used info from this site techspot

from http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/nvct...exe-t82457.html

from http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/ana...trojzlobbc.html

and from norton

http://securityresponse.symantec.co...valinstructions

I started in safe mode admin account and deleted

mscornet.exe

mssearch.exe

nvctrl.exe

ld????.tmp

ncompat.tlb

msvol.tlb

hp????.tmp

from c:\win*\system32

and from c:\win*\prefetch

and from %UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA

and

%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Protect

I think that was all of them.

Then I went into run regedit

did a find on the above files and deleted all of them. had to do some find next too.

then all seemed well so I went to norton and ran there Free Scan for Viruses

http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/ its in the upper right hand side of page.

It found one more virus called spyaxe.trojan which I think is what started it all I deleted it and have had no more problems.

good luck took me about 6 hours. then again though im kinda slow.

Just a heads up for everyone. I've had my computer on for 6 consecutive days, thus missing a valuable windows update. I think this is one of the reasons why spyaxe got me.

Make sure you get the lastest updates after the attacks, and if you can, make a new system restore point, when you are all clean :)

This previous post by maitreya667 is spam brought to you by the clowns who run 2spyware a known site associated with dodgy anti-spyware apps, but not necessarily rogues. They have been going around hitting boards with the same links to the same sites.

Most likely it is either jurgita or ugnius, both of them are either the same people or working in concert. I wouldn't be sirprised if another new user comes along to espew the same advice.

I'll be notifying a mod about this spam.
