Every now and then I receive a message indicating Windows needs to update. I delay this process by indicating a date in the future to do the update but this becomes a bothersome task. Why you ask? After an update my printer ceases to operate and I need to reload the software. Then I begin receiving McAfee pop up ads I don''t want. Sometimes McAfee sends messages a scan has detected security risks. Of course I immediately run my PC Matic software and it detects no problems. Eventually they seem to stop after putting up with them for days. I know some are unavoidable but is there a proactive way

Windows 8 does not alert users to new Windows Updates like previous versions of Windows. Some people like Windows to "be quiet" and not alert them to updates for various reasons. For those of us who do rely on notifications to important Windows Updates this is a good free solution. Once I ran this software I was informed that I did indeed have 6 Windows Updates waiting to be downloaded and installed. Be sure to look at the see the documentation page for install instructions and Screenshots.

If you are annoyed with the message that you updates will be installed when after you click "Shutdown", this is for you. The simple way to do it is 1.Press Alt+F4 2. Change the pull-down menu from Install Updates and shutdown to shutdown only 3. Click OK Now Windows will shutdown without waiting for the updates to install. things to remember: The steps are not permanent, you need to do it every time updates for Windows are downloaded
