  1. I have had trouble with simple file sharing between Vista and XP and NOw between my 2 PC's running Win 7 Ultimate that are 15 feet apart. I can usually create a folder on each computer that I can put files into and share between the 2 PC's. But I to be able to easily share files and folders. I hoped that Win 7 Homegroup would finally allow easy sharing. But alas no. When I try to setup Homegrop on the 2nd PC it can't find my first PC - after entering the Homegroup password I got from the 1st PC. Trouble shooting suggested my router might be the problem. Verizon tech came on line and said he fixed it. No such luck. When I opened the Router later I found he opened my system up to the world so anybody could access my system from anywhere except my other PC 15 feet away. Since it still was not working I reinstated basic router security. My Verizon router DSL is connected to a Netgear 5 port switch Switch which works fine. I can usually share printers after fussing around awhile. I have a networked printer connected to the switch which works fine from both PC's. I have administered 20 PC networks running server 2000 & 2003, active directory, etc. but have always had problems with home networks for some reason. So this is probably not a simple solution like my PC is not plugged into the switch. I posted my test results with my last question. Ideally I want to be able to share My Documents, Music, Photos and these folders usually will not let me set up simple sharing even. Homegroup is supposed to do this easily. AS I mentioned I have setup a shared folder I can put files into that can be accessed by the other PC so I can move/copy files there so my wife can then copy the files to where she wants them. But I want to simply be able to directly share files with her. So in summary, basic sharing works on a new folder off the root directory, printer sharing works. Homegroup can not find other PC/s to connetc to. I am running NOrton EndPOint for Virus and internet security. Thanks for your help.
