  1. OUCH! Okay, this sounds horribly like what happened to my comp a few years back. Our beloved "Lady in Red" helped me, and I would suggest going over to the virus / Hijack forum. I had a Trojan that simply did not show up on normal scans. You sound pretty computer literate so I will not go through all the usual things but you could try this in the mean time till someone that's a real expert gets on board. Go to Kasparsky's site, get the free trial version. Save it to your desk top. Then, do a "cold" re-boot, and start tapping F8... I'm sure you know that routine. From there run the scan, and KILL anything that the scan does not like. Reboot after the scan. That might work. You may have to turn off system restore, but first I would run the scan from safe mode. If that shows clear, then this is probably NOT the problem. If it does show bad characters playing with your comp then that may well be the issue. If it did show some sort of problem, and the clean from safe-mode didn't fix it then you need better help than I can give. It involves dumping system restore, and if the "fix" fails, you get to reformat... Go to the hijack / virus forum.
  2. So, this morning I went through the entire process again, to no avail. Now it says this: Connection -Specific DNS Suffix: ( blank) Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.125.*** Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway: (blank) Anyone have any ideas? As always any help is greatly appreciated.
  3. So, now it says that it connects, but not, if that makes sense. It says that there is no media. As in the ethernet adapter, also "Connection specific DNS Suffix is blank after checking the ipconfig. Any help is as always appreciated.
  4. Thanks for the response! I am not sure what SSID is, but check this out. The manager has a wifi set up and I had the netgear tool go to default with no WEP security, and it connects..! Anyways, at least now I know that my computer is working. They most likely gave me the security code for the other building by mistake, but we shall see. Thank you for your assistence!
  5. The apartment complex that I live in recently installed a WiFi system for the tenants to use. I purchased a Netgear USB wireless set up (my usb is high speed.) and it connects, but my computer doesn't connect. My firewall has it set to allow access for the new connection. I have been to several sites to no avail. I have reset the IP address, and did cold re-boots to no avail. I used the Netgear installer to set things up. Should I disable that and try the XP installer? I have gotten different messages at different times. "No media in DHCP," and unable to establish IP address are the most common. This is my first experience with wireless, so please bear with me if I am not supplying enough, or the correct information needed to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance for any help. XP Pro CA Security Suite
  6. Just to let you know. The Dfac ran fine on my comp. It still says that IE has to close when it checks windows setup though. Also, I still cannot fully install the HP printer/scanner. It says that drivers are not there that are there. Hope that helps.
  7. I am having the same problems. I have IE 7 and I get an Active X warning. I click to allow the instalation and it says that IE has encountered an error and needs to close. End of game. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Je soulève un verre de vin fin dans un pain grillé à la dame sans des chaussures pour une bataille bien combattue.
  9. Well? It was a battle well fought, and I do thank you for working so hard. I will install a new O/S. I am having to send my new XP disk back to MS for replacement. It refuses to install LOL. Take care and God bless.
