  1. I don't know what everyones problem is but I had XP since it was released & I got a new laptop with Vista installed which is way better than XP.I think it all depends on what you want to do with your computer but I have no complaints.
  2. I changed the battery in my desktop & now it won't go into standby or hibernate.It is a seven year old Compaq running XP service pack 3.Also sometimes it will hang at the Compaq screen on startup.I have to push the power button 2 or 3 times to get it to start properly.Any ideas?

What I really would like to see is one program that is a combination of something like AWC & a very good anti virus & adware removal tool.There are some out there but they all have faults that make them either hard to use or are just plain non-functual.I haven't seen any good ones yet.I think it is just a matter of time until someone developes a truly remarkable program that encompasses all of the features that one needs to keep their computer operating at peak efficiancy & doesn't take a genius to use.Until that day comes I'll be using Advanced Windows Care for configuration problems & AVG for virus protection.I'm sure other people have their favorites as well & all I can say is to use what works for you.

I found this program about a year ago & I've been using it to repair lots of problems on my computers as well as friends computers.I know that many of the users of this forum are aware of this program but I don't see much mention of it.As far as the majority of problems that I have used it to repair I must say that I think it should be in every ones tool box.My sons' laptop was unusable & after running Advanced Windows Care along with AVG we got his computer to work GREAT.A friend had problems that he couldn't figure out & again AWC & AVG came to the rescue.When any of my computers start to act up I just run AWC & they return to normal or better than normal.I realize that there are many problems that it can't fix ;detecting or elimanating viruses or detecting mechanical problems,but when it comes to computer system configuration problems I have NOT found any other program better than this one.I've talked to lots of computer repair professionals & many of them use Advanced Windows Care to get a handle on many problems.Sorry for the long post but I'm excited about finding something that can help noobies as well as experianced users to enjoy their computers as they should.
  6. My tests read the same.It must be a bug with the test because mine used to read correctly until recently.
  7. I checked & everything was set as it should be.The problem was that I had shut down the laptop before trying to access it from the desktop.After it was restarted all worked fine.This is my first time at setting up file sharing & I have learned a lot by my mistakes. Thanks for the reply.
  8. Now after some more tweaking only the desktop shows up as a networked computer.The laptop does not show up & I can't get it back as a networked conputer.I wish I new what I was doing !!!! :crash:

Both computers show up when I click on "show networked computers" but when I select the laptop from the desktop I can't access it.When I select the desktop from the laptop it prompts me for a password.I've ran the help program but with no results.Both computers are running XP home,the desktop is hardwired to a router & the laptop is wireless.Do I need to change other settings on the router [Linksys 54TWRG] or on the computers ?
  10. UPDATE! After trying EVERYTHING that was suggested & running a file scan the problem persisted.I got desperate & tried something from the days of Windows 95 when I had similar email problems & IT WORKED !! On the server tab on email properties instead of "Pop.earthlink.net" for incoming mail I changed it to "mail.earthlink.net" & I entered the same for outgoing mail instead of "Smtpauth.earthlink.net".I don't know why this works but it does.Two other computers use the values that I changed on this computer.If it ain't broke don't fix it.Thanks for the replies while I was having problems.

  12. The first time it happened was 2 days ago.I reset all settings & it worked fine until today.I did receive mail about your reply to my post but the server timed out very quickly after that.

I can't get my mail from Outlook.I've reset all settings the same as my other computer but it still won't work.I get a message to "configure the mail server for authentication".I did that & it still won't work.This just started all of a sudden without any changes being made.I have two other laptops that work fine on a wireless network.The computer that won't recieve mail is a desktop that is hardwired to the router.I hooked one of the laptops up using the ethernet cable from the desktop & it worked fine.Upon reconnecting the desktop via the ethernet cable it again failed to get mail.It works fine except for that.Any help is appreciatted.
