  1. sorry to hijack, but bruce....do you have a link to some good instructions for the repair? i almost picked up a very inexpensive dv9000 "for parts" that i believe had that specific problem, and i passed on it. do you think would it be a worth while investment for say $40-$50?? i am pretty capable of most repairs, as you probably know. ....or is it simply not worth the effort i will have to put into it?
  2. to see the grub menu....you may need to press the "esc" key as the computer boots (just after the manufacturer's splash screen disappears). might want to be quick with it....by default, i think you only have like 3 seconds to press it or you will miss the opportunity.
  3. i kinda like it. didn't think i would, but it has grown on me. i also had no unity when i first installed (using an nvidia gtx480), just the icon for the main menu in the top left. after installing the nvidia driver....unity was there.
  4. i just upgraded from that 32bit plugin i was using to the 64bit version from this PPA: https://launchpad.ne.../+archive/flash if you want to try that, just run the following command in a terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer running that added the repo, updated the sources, removed my old version of flash and installed the 64bit version (10.3 d162) .....so far, it seems to be working perfectly. the only issue i had with the 64bit plugin was that fullscreen video would get ch

  6. might want to try this package: https://bugs.launchp...s_1.0.0_all.deb from here (see comment #116): https://bugs.launchp...ex?comments=all
  7. try the "chipset driver"...that should take care of the smbus, and maybe a few others. check the device manager after installing that one and see what others are left.
  8. have you looked in: system > preferences > mouse > touchpad tab if edge-scrolling does not work, try two-finger....see if that works. my son had trouble with his asus laptop when set to edge-scrolling (default), changing it to two-finger scrolling fix that.
