  1. Hi Tx.- Yes a long time indeed. Very sad to hear of losing folks from the site. All those years ago when I first joined it was a busy busy place and Gator was public enemy number 1. Now there are multi threats to us all on line that security becomes like that at Fort Knox or the Bank of England. All good stuff though and its good to be back. Doubt if I'm any wiser than I was previously but I enjoy the chats.. Of to have a look and see who is still around then. Beau
  2. Hello. Just recently came back to the Pit and was really rattled to hear about YKs demise. He was a good friend to me over the years with help and tips on getting the best out of my computer and my involvement in the forums. So sad to hear about this and can only send my condolences and best wishes to the family. Sad regrets. beau.
  3. Thanks again Shadowfox (got it right this time ) I kinda thought along those lines myself - I mean the title basically indicates the usage. Ah well, thats another $60 bucks or so saved regards beau
  4. I'm getting this new computer and I have never used XP before. Should I just plump for the home edition or should I get the prefessional version? What are the differences other than price? We do quite a lot of WP and some spreadsheets etc but ME haas been sufficient until now. Is there any benefits in getting the professional version for home use? I know Vista is due out later this year but can't wait until then. beau
  5. Ermmmm apologies for that ShadowfOx - the eyes are getting old these days! Stormy13 - I think I'll go for the 4400s and keep them stock. Will let you know how I get on once I get it delivered. Happy new year to you too mate!
  6. Hi Shadowfax, thanks for the response I think you are right about it being an opinion thing - but never found that to be a problem in the PIT before The ATI is the one I have preference on I must admit but its been some time since I had to make a decision like this I've also been advised to NOT go for the AMD 4200s as the 3800s can be o/cd to the same spec very easily. Someone esle ahs advocated that if I can cough up the cash, the 4400s would be the best option to consider. I think the card is decided now - does anyone have any opinions on the 4400s? beau
  7. No takers on this one guys? Or have I placed it in the wrong part of the forums? beau
  8. Hi folks, I'm buying a new computer soon and I'm in a quandry about what graphics card to go for in it. The choice is between:- 256MB nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT-TV-out + DVI-PCI-Express or - 2x 128MB nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT-DVI-SLI congiguration or - 256MB ATI Radeon X1800XL-PCI-Express with DVI & TV out? The processor isAMD Athalon 64X2Dual Core 4200 with HT tech. Can anyone offer some tips and guidance to help me? The use it will be put to is the usual stuff plus digital photo editing, some camcorder editing and reasonably high end games play + anything else my sons choose to throw at it. beau Addendum: Sorry but I forgot to say the MOBO is an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe if that helps at all.
  9. Twisted sister = the two acrobats centre page, Thought of "the vibrators" as well for the sex pistols one. Mother and child reunion = photo in the shop? Who is the girl up on the fire escape blowing bubble gum - Pink? Anyone know where the definitive list can be found? This thing is driving me nuts - but it's great fun! beau Not sure it is the pixies - looks more like the Pink Fairies to me. Is the group depicted by the 3 girls in front of the rolling stone Swing out Sister? Sorry - this thing ahs me hooked!
  10. Hulk - wicked man. But hey - Ike is still his own man! To the rest of you - it's nice to be back love this one beau
  11. ermmm........ dough, did you forget a link or something? beau.
  12. Geeeeez, how come I always miss the fun? Juliet - thanks for the link....I see it was another bull in the china shop incident.....mutter, mutter, mutter - wonder if it was our old friend from a few years back?????? Ah well, I'm sure the mods and that will have them pegged again - for a while at least! I agree with one of the comments in that link you gave - they would'nt bother if the site was just offering nonsense. They're obviously quite jealous/angry/feeling left out or something that they feel the need to interfere like this. CB - we had some snow at the beginning of November but then it thawed a bit and it all disappeared But never mind, it's really shaping up for what is being predicted as our coldest winter in many a year - 5 degrees this morning and the frost hasn't lifted all day Moon - I think it is something to do with your magnetic pull - it keeps dragging us back here Hulk - nice to see your still telling them jokes - they're my kinda humour Alls4&Intel - great to be back beau
  13. Howsyall doing folks? Aint been around for a while and my - how the board has changed Love these new smilies Anything drastic been happening apart from the board colour going back to something like it used to be many moons ago? (no pun intended Moony) Ah well - it's nice to see so many familiar names. best to ya all. beau
  14. will someone please enlighten me as to the meaning of this post? I know i hav'nt been around lately but it looks like you have all moved on to another plane of enlightenment where everyone but me knows what is going on
  15. Iain, if you have something to say - just say it! I think most of us around here respect you for your openess and directness that you usually display - so what's with all this guarded hinting at a subject? Man you are confusing me. What started out as a seemingly straightforward statement of preference has turned into some kind of acid trip C'mon man - spill the beans beau
  16. Fair point Bruce I was perhaps being a bit too liberal there Must go and have a whisky to calm my thinking down  beau
  17. Quote (Bruce @ August 20th, 2005, 10:51 AM) Too right Bruce - ya all gotta keep them standards up Buy her anew hitch and trailer for her car instead! beau
  18. Awwwww shucks that's great news! Regardless of all the nappies to come your child will amaze and amuse you all their days - enjoy every minute beau
  19. Jacee, can we swap GWB for you? Your point makes real sense and - it allows the young-uns to make choices of their own rather than have one crammed down their throat. Of course the next hurdle to overcome would be finding people who are honest enough not to push any particular aspect more than the other
  20. I just find the concept of GWB and intelligence in the same conversation funny
  21. For all those who have posted - a great big thank you! Families come in many shapes and guises - I'm real proud to be a part of this one beau.
  22. Yesterday, I lost a very dear friend This lady was an inspiration to me for many years and was always very interested in me, my family, and our welfare. She knew my kids and treated them like her own - often spoiling them rotten in the process. She was one of those people who - once you knew her, you couldn't but help like her, even though at times she would drive you to distraction and raise hell with you because of some decision or action you had taken that she didn't approve of. She had that uncanny ability to get under your skin and foretell what you might be about to do or say - sometimes even before you had thought of it! She herself had had a fairly hard life in her earlier years and, despite this, she wasn't a bitter person: Rather she was one to see the sunny side of life. I can recall when I was quite young and one of her smiles was all it took to make me feel happy. Her kind words and encouragement did a lot for me and inspired me to be a better person in many, many ways. The saddest part of this person's life was the fact that for the last five years, she had been in care due to a form of dementia and, she no longer recognised people nor had the facility of speech with which to communicate - something she loved to do. Who was this lady? She was my Mum. God rest you! beau.
  23. Known this since I was pretty young and it has always given me hope and a smile 'if' by rudyard kipling If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream - and not make dreams your master, If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breath a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! beau
