  1. i would suggest one of these http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=203-EV-0019-01 the 9800GX2 8 pin power connector is recessed below a cover and the notch cut out is too narrow for a regular 8 pin Pcie connector so until newer PSU's are updated with the proper connector i would recommend the adapter $5.00 +S&H EDIT : the adapter would convert the 6+2 connector to the 8 pin connector and fit properly the only other alternative would be to trim the tab to fit...... but for $5.00 why damage a PSU and possibly void warranty
  2. i know with my HD3870X2's it seems every 5 or 6 reboots i get a no ATI driver found message and display defaults to a lower resolution ... usually a reboot brings it all back tho had that problem with cat 8.3 and 8.4, multiple clean installs of Vista ... definitely a driver bug ah well atleast they have a lifetime warranty .......... oh wait thats my Nvidia cards
  3. ya know it was not my intention to start a Rant and i apologize maybe i should have just stated my opinion and left it at that i only meant to state that the card performs very well Bigjoe ... good luck with your choice
  4. you call it a joke ... and that may be your opinion i never set a time line on what came out 1st .... it is essentially the same design as the HD3870X2 but will out perform it on a single card comparison however 2 HD3870X2's will scale better than than 2 9800GX2's which is why i never bought a 2nd 1 but single card for single card the 9800GX2 out performs it albeit at a higher price tag but it essentially allows a level of SLI on an Intel chipset which was my main objective in this thread what i am saying is that I'm speaking from personal experience not a biased opinion I can put up some single card comparisons later ,, but what would the point be
  5. as someone that has the 2 8800GTX and the 9800GX2 and has 2 HD3870X2's i have to say the 9800GX2 is a great performance card it is a great performer and i dont see any heat issues that are claimed by someone who obviously doesnt have one its essentially 2 9800GTX's sharing the same PCB so obviously it will generate more heat and if going for an intel chipset its the closest to SLI youre going to find so 2 9800GTX's will cost a little more than a 9800GX2 but may never compete with it on an X38 chipset so personally i would recommend a 9800GX2 over a 9800GTX
  6. I have both a 9800GX2 and 2 HD3870X2's so speaking from experience 1 card vs 1 card the 9800GX2 beats the 3870X2 in almost all benches but the HD3870X2 will scale better if running more than 1 card which is why i never bothered to get a 2nd 9800GX2 the 9800GTX is kind of a marketing scam by revamping a 8800GT slightly and calling it a GTX but since they're fairly inexpensive compared to real GTX's you cant really complain the 9800GX2 is basically 2 8800GT's sharing the same PCB but in essence doubling the memory bus from 256 to 512 and allowing a level of SLI in a single card the same way HD3870X2 allows crossfire performance with a single card i can put up some single card 9800GX2 vs HD3870X2 benches later this weekend but for a single card solution and wanting to stick with Nvidia you currently will not find a better card than the 9800GX2 lets not forget the lifetime warranty that Nvidia cards have and the 1yr with ATI ... now consider all the HD3870X2's that died during forum Warz Edited for content
  7. well i for one like more Cores , more Mhz .. and meaningless synthetic benchmarks for that matter just gimme more hey its cheaper than Gambling

  10. i dont recall ever seeing a stock back plate for the 775 boards .... the stock HSF just pops into the 4 holes and is a press in retainer fit can ya let us know what the temps are under a load
  11. looks good Paul ... the CPUz memory shot is not a requirement as far as i know and only a few do it so i would go with the more points
  12. Nice to see ya Deanzo you know you're welcome here
  13. now if i can just get some of the other benches to run i'd be a happy camper
