  1. i see that i've started a controversy. here's the thing about the freezer trick: while hard drives can be repaired, the amount it costs is extremely prohibitive. your drive isn't working as is, so who gives a rats if some condensation forms on the platters? it's a last ditch effort that will occassionally work...if it doesn't work then you still have a non-working hard drive. i have no idea why it's even being argued. it's like arguing that we shouldn't use defibrillators on humans. yeah, if they're healthy it's not good, but they're dying, man.
  2. yeah, not much you can do. there's a small possibility that if you place it in a freezer for a few hours that it may work for a short period of time after, but that is a very small chance. this is why backups are so important.
  3. using chrome at home and ie9 at work i haven't had any issues posting here in a long time. what browser are you using and could you descriptively explain the issue you're having?
  4. all-time fave would be the civilization series. i've currently logged over 500 hours on civ 5 alone. after that probably world of warcraft, the elder scrolls series, diablo series (although 3 was kind of a let-down), and i love the madden games.
  5. submit a ticket to capcom http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/html/pbPage.capcom-support
  6. don't listen to this guy. he's simply trying to make money for dell...i would consider his post spam and only spam. honestly, just about any sata hard drive will work.
  7. what is your operating system? also, this should probably go in u2u
  8. i think the bottom line is that it would likely not be cost effective at this point to change the architecture of the software the pit uses. given that all the offerings are geared towards windows and that all windows computers come with internet explorer and activex (as stated several times), the business reasoning behind it is about as logical as you can get.
  9. make sure you retain the same aspec ratio. changing it to 1024x768 from 1920x1080 will make it look horrible. 1280x720 would be the same ratio as 1920x1080, so you could go with that and still retain hd quality.
  10. this thread put a smile on my face and made me chuckle a little bit.
  11. this thread really has me curious...why game on decade old processors? is it a hobby or just due to being unable to upgrade?
  12. here's some good tips: http://www.jasonslater.co.uk/2009/12/14/dealing-with-a-poor-wireless-signal/ wait, so the issue happens at the same time every day?
  13. there are literally thousands of things that cause signal degradation. from using a microwave oven to a cordless telephone to walls (even thin ones) to basic power lines in the walls. without really being able to investigate this, it's hard for us to be able to determine. these issues often do get worse with time for various reasons. in short: sure sounds like degradation to me. sometimes nearly impossible to find the root cause.

    3d test

ahh, okay...makes sense. doesn't really affect me, just bugs me when i look at the 3d test

    3d test

i know that this is a very niche group of people, but is it possible to run the 3d test portion of the overdrive test in full screen rather than windowed? for those of us who have crossfire, the crossfire doesn't kick in unless it's full screen.
  16. huh, i would have thought the fx6200 would score better. here's my 1100t for comparison. http://pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=24911843&report=Summary
  17. so...xfx not only sent me a fan, but another identical 6870!!! crossfired 6870's? yes please.
  18. i've serviced a very large number of systems over the last 15+ years and i've had this happen quite a bit when removing the heatsink. it's really not that uncommon for the processor to slide out of the socket when it's stuck to the heatsink. it's actually kind of good because it indicates that the processor is making excellent contact with the heatsink and should dissipate heat quite well. one thing you DO need to do if this happens, however, is to check the pins to be sure none are bent or missing. i've never had a pin go missing on me, but a buddy of mine said he has.
  19. what an amazing breakthrough...in a few years this will likely be all over the place. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/05/21/ucl_reram/
  20. you have absolutely lost all credibility on this subject if you call microsoft a "failing company". failing companies don't make 23 billion dollars in profits. http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2012/snapshots/3063.html
  21. wait...what? how is microsoft failing?
