  1. One of my favorite tech sites has done it again. There's a new ransomware threat that generates FAKE BSODs and get people to buy fake Windows Defender Essentials. http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/malware-fakes-bsod-and-convinces-victims-to-buy-windows-defender-essentials.html
  2. This showed up on one of my favorite sites this morning! http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/ftc-settles-with-operators-of-infamous-fake-microsoft-tech-support-scam.html
  3. I get these popups at least twice a week from various web pages. I noticed that the toll free numbers listed on the Infinite Alert Hoax page does not list 1-888-227-3532 or 1-855-873-5650, please add them to that page so others can see them. When I do get one of these popups I can't close by normal means like pressing the X" in the upper right corner of Edge or minimize the page. I right click on the task bar located at the bottom and click the Task Manager, locate the Edge app and end the task. I then reopen Edge and click the option to "close" and tabs and start a new session.
  4. I just attempted an Overdrive test after launching IE 11 as an administrator. Immediately after the bandwidth test was over it went to this page http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/ajaxscan/NoSession.asp?why=no_tid&url=SaveBW.asp
  5. After installation of the current version of PC Matic on a Win 10 Pro (Creators Update - Version 1703 / build 15063.413) Super Shield will auto install and Windows Defender will auto shutdown and turn itself off. The Windows firewall still has to manually be turned off.
  6. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. This is a self built machine running an Intel 4770K on an ASRock Z87 Extreme 4 board. While it ran on Win7 Ultimate is was my understanding that the Windows Firewall could be disabled with PC Matic Super Shield being fully in charge of both firewall and anti-virus. Are you now telling me that is no longer the case? Do I need to activate Defender also. The main reason I went with Pc Matic in the first place was that Windows Fire Wall gave too many false positives. Another problem that I have is the UAC, even with notifications off, it is still requesting permission to use utilities that have the potential to modify to system, if I manually start that utility. Under Win 7, I was able to basically turn off UAC by setting it at the lowest setting. Now under Win 10, I must have UAC activated to at least the lowest active level, one mark above my previous setting, in order for the system to work properly. Is there another way to stop those annoying popups? Also will the tests that run from your web site be modified to run without active-x to that these tests will run using Win 10 Edge or will I have to continue use IE11?
  7. I recently upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate x(64) to Win 10 Pro x(64) - Build 14393.693 (RS1) via the still available Technical Assistance (free upgrade). It seems that Win 10 is sending me pop ups to turn on the Windows firewall even though I'm using PC Matic as my firewall. I have turned off the firewall messages in the security & maintance panel but it keeps popping up. Currently the Windows firewall is set to manual, but the messages keep coming up even when the service is turned off. Is there any way to stop this and have Windows recognize PC Matic as the firewall. Also, is there any difference in how Windows treats PC Matic when d/l'ed from Windows store as opposed from your site.?
  8. Yes they are. Shouldn't these be reversed as in 32-bit is C:\Program Files (x86), for 64-bit C:\Program Files?
  9. The system is Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, and this problem has been going on for the last several months. The deleted files did come back after doing a new scan. At first I thought that it might have been because I have XML Maker 2, which is a xml editor, but that is not the case as I had re-imaged the system at least once during that time and the files appeared prior to installing XML Maker 2. The problem still existed when I had upgraded PC Pitstop to the current version, which is at the point that I raised the question. Since installing all three portions of the product in the parent folder C:\PROGRAM FILES\, I've have not had the problem.
  10. Now I'm totally confused. What is the default parent folder for the PC Pitstop application regardless of whether the OS is 32 or 64 bit? I was able to install the main application into the parent folder C:\Program Files\. Prior to deleting the C:\Program Files (x86)\PC Pitstop\PC Matic\ folder and its contents, I noticed that the Nitro and Info Center applications are also associated with the parent folder C:\Program Files (x86). Therefore, I had to re-designate those applications also during their installation process, since I didn't want to spread everything into different parent folders. If the final answer is C:\Program Files (x86), it still doesn't explain the original problem.
  11. Just to be sure, d/l'ed the current version ( and used it to do the install. I deleted the application via Control Panel>Progams & Features and had to uninstall Nitro manually as a separate program. The installer defaulted to C:\Program Files (x86)\PC Pitstop\PC Matic\ and I directed it to C:\Program Files\PC Pitstop\PC Matic\. Ran the scan and the logs did not show on the desktop. Even though I uninstalled the application via Control Panel>Program & Features, the uninstall did not remove the C:\Program Files (x86)\PC Pitstop\PC Matic\ folder and its contents. The new install also did not provide me a way to reinstall Nitro. How do I install Nitro at this point or is there something that I can move to the new default folder prior to deleting the old folder?
  12. No the installer defaulted to Program Files(86), where it always defaulted to on my machines even though they are 64-bit machines. I will uninstall it and direct the installer to the Programs Files folder and see what happens. Many Thanks!
  13. What is the purpose of leaving the 2 nrmtest.log files (.txt & .xml) on the desktop after PCmatic has completed, when there used to be a time that these files where not shown. There can be multiple copies of these files if not deleted. I've noticed this for quite a while and finally decided to pose the question.
  14. As noted in the message text, the system is running Win 7/SP1. Additional system info: Intel i7/950, DX58SO, 6Gb ram, Microsoft .NET Framwork 4.0.30319, which is the current version (installed 09/18 & 09/19/2011).

  16. Since seeing your reply, I have run several speed tests via dslreports.com and compared them against tests from 6 months ago and I see no difference is the length of time it took to d/l, u/l the files. I have downloaded various large files (1Mb+) from different sites and have noticed no changes in the length of time that it took to d/l those files. Live streaming of audio files have resulted in skips, like scratches in the vinyl records of old, which I did not have prior to installation.
  17. Recently ran PcMatic and it requested that I install NITRO, which is suppossed to make my downloads faster. I can not find any information regarding NITRO on your web site. What are the specifics for this program? I did install the product, but did not see any improvement in download speed. I also did not see any changes being made to increase the internet tweaks. Machine specs are (Intel Core i7/930, DPX58SO, 6Gb ram, 3Mb d/l, 768 u/l).
  18. Now that Microsoft has released the beta version of IE9,it might be a good idea to add it to the running programs database so that it will not show up as an UNKNOWN when running Overdrive.
  19. I found this feature not long after I started using Win 7 Pro (64-bit) when it first came out in production. I have a couple of 32-bit applications that refused to install, even in compatibility mode. By installing this feature, I now have the Weather Channel back on my system and can get the temp at a glance. I also have other applications running under XP-Mode. The feature actually installs as a virtual XP machine inside of Win 7, that can be started at any time that it is needed. After installation, I used the Windows update to bring the XP machine up to current state as far as system updates are concerned. I also do it monthly when I update the parent system. You can have multiple applications running on it. What makes it a really great feature is that you can pin (copy) a shortcut to you Win 7 desktop. This way you don't have to go through the allprograms menu. By hitting the shortcut, XP-mode will automatically start and the application will be loaded. After ending the application, XP-mode will stop and will hibernate until needed again. Please note that this only works on Professional, Enterprise & Ultimate versions only!! If you want to see the Microsoft site, click here, Microsoft XP-Mode site, or you can simply go the site on the original post. (LOVE IT!!!)
