  1. To my knowledge, which is admittedly limited, Macafee is not running a firewall. I am pretty sure they use the term center because it monitors other programs in you security system for updates etc. I have wondered myself why there are so many Macafe related programs running. When you say clear out junk files do you mean cookies and temp files etc.? I have defragged the hard drive. Can you tell me how to set defrag to run automatically? I tried the task scheduler but in the wizard I couldn't find defrag? Thanks for all the help.
  2. I use Macafee for virus scannning only. I think, and I am using zonealarm as the firewall. The computer was purchased with Macafee and Norton Internet Security preinstalled. I had many problems with Norton. After no help from Norton support and some research through forums etc. I uninstalled Norton and added ZoneAlarm. While surfing I stumbled on the PCPITSTOP site and tested the computer. I am pretty sure that Macafee is virus scanning only. I do not see any noticeable drop in performance when the cpu usage is high it just bugs me. Also do you have any suggestions about improving my uncached speed performance? Thanks for the help.
  3. Here is a link to one of the "low" tests. It was performed after the machine was running for a while. http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=F0SWNWJVSTCSTZPU Here is a test result after reboot: http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=3K9GNWJVSTCS98PU I have installed winpatrol but I do not see anythng unusual. Thanks for the help.
  4. I have noticed that if the computer is left running for several hours the cpu usage as reported in task manager rises to around 50%. Reboot will drop the usage to 0-2%. When the system is running at 50% I do not see any processes using up the cpu. That is all zeros in the column right of the process list. Is this an indication of background programs? Can a program be running and not reported in task manager? Thanks
